WATER DECLARATION - CARLSON'S & FLAT LEDGE QUARRIES
At their meeting this morning, the DPW Commissioners voted to declare a water emergency for Carlson's and Flat Ledge quarries based on the ongoing drought conditions. This proactive step will allow the DPW to work with the caretakers of Steel Derrick and draw three feet of water from there and deposit it into Carlson's Quarry through a siphon system. The DPW is in communication with DEP and all appropriate regulatory bodies.
As many residents are aware, due to the drought conditions, the quarries and their surrounding watersheds have not fully recharged this year. We hope that this proactive measure will put the quarry into a better position over the coming months so that it can fully recharge, subject to precipitation amounts.
