How to Never Hear “I’m Bored!” Again
Many of us have a favorite hobby: knitting, cooking, gardening, woodworking, or scrapbooking. Naturally, we want to pass these passions down to our grandkids. But how do we get them genuinely excited instead of just politely nodding while glued to their phones?
The golden rule: don't force your way of doing things—focus on what sparks their curiosity.
Here are 3 simple steps to turn your favorite hobby into a cherished family tradition:
🤪 Forget perfectionism. If you’re teaching your grandkid how to bake a family recipe or help out in the garden, be prepared for things to go off script. It will take twice as long, and it’s going to get incredibly messy. The goal here is fun and connection, not a flawless final product.
🗳️ Give them the power to choose. Let them pick the yarn color for a scarf, the shape of a wooden piece, or the flower seeds to plant. When kids have a say, they feel like the true authors of the project.
🪜 Break it down into baby steps. Don’t try to teach them complex techniques right away. Celebrate the tiny wins, praise their effort, and take it one slow step at a time.
Remember: when you share a hobby, you’re not just passing down a skill—you are creating those warm, lifelong core memories.
Have you ever successfully got your kids or grandkids into your hobbies?
