The Rockwall Police Department is committed to ensuring our community is prepared when a missing person is reported, especially when that individual is at risk.
Over the summer, our Citizens on Patrol (COPs) volunteers finalized specialized training from Northeast Texas CART on protocols for locating missing persons deemed at risk. The training covered six key areas:
• Field Operations Guide
• Missing Child Tabletop Exercises
• First Officer on Scene
• Human Trafficking Awareness
• Mental Health Understanding, including autism spectrum awareness and Search and Rescue (SAR)
• Search Operations, Planning, Mapping, and SAR Management
Having trained COPs volunteers strengthens our ability to support law enforcement efforts and respond quickly when a missing person is deemed at risk in Rockwall and Rockwall County.
We are grateful to Northeast Texas CART for providing this valuable training and to our dedicated COPs volunteers for their continued commitment to serving our community. Their willingness to learn and assist helps us better protect the people who call Rockwall home.
CART is a certified law enforcement program of the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. Northeast Texas CART is one of over 130 CARTs is America, and one of over 33 Office of Justice Certified programs in America.
CARTs primary area of operation is in the counties of Rockwall, Hunt, Collin and Kaufman.
There are less than 5 CARTs in Texas and only 3 Certified CARTs in Texas.
CART has responded in over 250 cases since inception in 2009.
