Yesterday, members of The Rogers Fire Department were honored to run alongside El Dorado Fire Department Lieutenant Jacob Brimer through our city as a small part of his incredible Camp Sunshine Challenge!

Jacob ran hundreds of miles across the state of Arkansas, ending this morning in Missouri to raise awareness and funds for Camp Sunshine Arkansas, a special camp that provides children who have survived burn injuries with an opportunity to heal, connect with others who understand their journey, and make lasting memories.

We are humbled by this incredible demonstration of dedication, perseverance, and a firefighter’s heart for helping others.

More information on Lieutenant Brimer’s mission can be found here: https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/donation-form/camp-sunshine-challenge

Lieutenant Brimer, you are an inspiration to us all!

We just parted ways with Jacob at Horsebarn Park at the Rogers-Bentonville line. Jacob is going to do ANOTHER 5 miles tonight before resting and finishing out tomorrow!

Go Jacob!

Our crews recently completed Trench Technician training, strengthening the specialized skills needed to safely respond to trench and confined-space emergencies.

These types of incidents can be complex and dangerous, which is why hands-on training is so important. Our firefighters work to prepare for the worst so we can be at our best when our community needs us most.

A big thank you to our instructors and the other departments who joined us for this training. Working and training together makes all of us stronger and better prepared to serve our communities.

For this week's , we wanted to share the volunteer firefighter voting box. From 1888 to 1922, the Rogers Fire Department was entirely made up of volunteers, using this box to vote on the addition of new members. White marbles signified a favorable vote, while black marbles would remove a candidate from the roll.

Today, the RFD is a full-time, professional department, and our hiring and promotional processes are much more rigorous. Candidates must complete both written and physical tests, as well as verbal interviews to be hired. Personnel undergoing the promotional process must complete testing through assessment centers in addition to interviews with the Civil Service Commission.

While the process has changed, one thing hasn’t: our commitment to selecting and developing the best people to serve the Rogers community.

This morning, the Rogers Fire Department and local VFW chapter participated in a Remembrance Ceremony for the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. We honor and remember the 343 NYFD members and 71 Law Enforcement officers who answered the call and made the ultimate sacrifice on that fateful day. We will never forget.

You have an emergency and call 911, but the dispatcher is asking you a lot of questions before help is on the way. Why?

We know it can feel frustrating answering questions when you are experiencing an emergency. The person handling your call is a trained professional who must ask specific questions to send help, while also ensuring both your safety and the safety of first responders. Here is what really happens when you dial 911:

Our dispatchers use a nationally recognized system called ProQA for Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) and Emergency Fire Dispatch (EFD). When you describe your situation to the dispatcher, this system will be used to determine the nature of your call and what kind of help you may need. As soon as critical information is received, help is already on the way. The dispatcher will continue to ask you questions while units are responding.

Answering the dispatcher’s questions helps them provide critical pre-arrival instructions that can make a difference before responders arrive. Our dispatchers are certified through the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch (IAED), providing evidence-based protocols to guide you with the right instructions during an emergency.

We know emergencies are stressful, but every question serves a purpose. Your safety is our first priority!
