I LOVE Petunia so much! I have this book along with other Petunia adventures, including a Christmas one, in the library. Or sn**ch up any copies offered at Log Cabin Vintage!

📚 Fridays Are for Picture Books | Petunia by Roger Duvoisin

You know I often say there are books that just stay with us long after childhood. Petunia is one of those books for me! I loved reading this book as a child.

When Petunia finds a book, she assumes that simply owning it makes her wise. Soon she’s handing out advice to all the farmyard animals, with some rather hilarious results! But beneath the humor there is a lesson to be learned of course.

And Duvoisin’s illustrations are part of what makes this book so special. His expressive characters, bold outlines, and limited color palette give the story so much personality and make Petunia’s foolishness all the more fun.

First published in 1950, Petunia is a wonderful reminder of why some picture books deserve a permanent place on a child’s bookshelf.

Did you grow up with Petunia, too, or would this be a new discovery for your family?

Just added to the website so you can revisit this classic too.

And yes, it is on my Log Cabin 100 list!

Happy Reading,
Wendy

Happy Birthday, Pooh!

Guess who turns 100 today! 🎂

Long before Winnie-the-Pooh became a Disney favorite, A.A. Milne’s books were finding their way onto children’s bookshelves around the world.

In 1926, Winnie-the-Pooh sold 150,000 copies in both the UK and US during its first year of publication. And a century later, these stories are still favorites!

All four of A.A. Milne’s books belong on every child’s bookshelf. From delightful poetry children will want to recite with you to wonderful stories of friendship, these are books to share with the next generation. And yes, Winnie-the-Pooh has earned a place on my **Log Cabin 100**, a collection of the books I believe belong on every child’s shelf.

Happy Birthday, Winnie! Here’s to another 100 years in the Hundred Acre Wood with the friends we’ve made there. 🐻📚
