Thank You, State Representative Dave Abbott!

Orange Township Fire Department would like to thank Indiana State Representative Dave Abbott for taking time out of his schedule to visit our firehouse!

We appreciated the opportunity to give him a tour of our facility, discuss our department’s operations, and answer questions regarding township government and the services we provide to our community.

Open communication and understanding between local and state government are important, and we always welcome the opportunity to share what we do and how we serve.

Absolutely!

A big thank you to the Arnold family for allowing Orange Township Fire to use their property for our weekly training! All of us greatly appreciate your commitment to the community.

Our crews had the opportunity to deploy ground ladders, operate the Quint on a hipped roof, and practice ventilation cuts on an actual structure.

Opportunities like this make a difference! Being able to train on real structures gives our firefighters hands-on experience that can’t always be recreated at the station.

🚒COME SEE US TONIGHT! 👻Did you know Orange Township Fire Department doesn’t operate solely on tax dollars?

Fundraisers like Limberlost Souls Haunted Trail provide an incredible opportunity to supplement our funding while bringing our community together!

Our department has worked hard to build and maintain opportunities like this, and the Haunted Trail has become a phenomenal way to connect with the people we serve.

Come see us tonight from 7 PM to 11 PM! Meet our firefighters, ask questions, and learn more about what we’re doing for your community.

Most importantly, we’re proud to partner with a local business that shares our vision: giving back to the community.

Come get scared, have some fun, and support your local firefighters!

🚒 Saturday Morning Training at Bixler Lake!
Orange Township Fire Department is spending the morning at Bixler Lake in Kendallville, working on pump operations and rural water supply.

Several area fire departments are coming together to train, collaborate, and strengthen the skills needed to move water efficiently when hydrants aren't available.

💧 Rural water supply is a team effort! From drafting water to supplying engines, teamwork and communication are what make these operations successful.

🚒 FIRE OFFICER STRATEGY AND TACTICS AT ORANGE TOWNSHIP! Week 1 !

15 students representing Marion, Wayne, Elkhart, Dekalb, LaGrange, Noble, and Steuben Counties came together at Orange Township Fire Department for our Fire Officer Strategy and Tactics (FOST) course.

Tonight’s topics included Fire Dynamics and Pre-Incident Planning, featuring hands-on demonstrations with the Max Fire Box.

The Max Fire Box allows firefighters to observe fire behavior in a controlled environment, demonstrating how ventilation, airflow, and changing conditions affect fire development. It provides a visual understanding of fire dynamics and how decisions made on the fireground can impact conditions inside a structure.

A special thank you to District 3 of the Indiana Fire and Public Safety Academy for providing the training prop and helping make this opportunity possible!

It’s great to see firefighters from across Indiana coming together to improve their knowledge and skills.

🚒 MORNING LADDER THROWS AT ORANGE TOWNSHIP 🪜

Did you know our part-time crews complete a planned training objective every day they’re on shift?

This morning: ground ladders.

Now, some might be thinking… “Well, isn’t training part of the job?”

Absolutely.

But did you know each day at Orange Township has a specific training objective planned in advance by the crews themselves ? Instead of waiting for someone to decide what to work on that morning, our crews already know there is a skill to accomplish, practice, and improve. That doesn’t even include the weekly training put in by volunteers.

Ladders are a perfect example. They may look simple sitting on the truck, but when one is needed at a fire, there’s no time to learn. Choosing the right ladder, carrying it, placing it, throwing it, and working together safely takes practice.

For our firefighters, that repetition builds confidence, teamwork, and muscle memory.

For our citizens, it means the crew arriving at your emergency has already spent time practicing the skills they may need to help you.

And here’s another “did you know?”

Remember when Orange Township hosted an Instructor I course?

That investment continues every day.

Each shift has either an officer or trained instructor working alongside the crew. That means our firefighters have someone there to coach, answer questions, correct mistakes, and continue pushing everyone to grow.

Training is part of the job.

Orange Township Firefighters Mackenzie Rood, Chris Lord, and Chief Landers are attending Fall Fest at Rome City Elementary!

Fall Fest is an annual event that brings community members together to educate, celebrate, and connect with local youth.

A special thank you to Mrs. Green and East Noble School Corporation for continuing to include fire safety as part of this program. Opportunities like this give us another chance to connect with students, teach important safety lessons, and stay involved in the community we serve.

A SUCCESS STORY WORTH CELEBRATING

FROM THE CHIEFS DESK

This evening, Orange Township Fire Department, Parkview EMS, and the Messer family came together to recognize the lifesaving efforts that took place on August 27, 2026.

Deputy Chief Arron Barker, Firefighter Stephanie Rurka, AEMT Amber Bair, and Paramedic Sarah Fike were presented with Commendation Awards in recognition of their actions, teamwork, and commitment to patient care.

Moments like this reflect the continued progress and dedication of the public safety professionals serving our community. The hours spent training, preparing, improving operations, and strengthening partnerships are investments made for moments exactly like this.

Tonight, we were fortunate to see the result of that work firsthand. More importantly, we were able to share that moment with the Messer family and recognize the people who helped make a successful outcome possible.

We are proud of the professionals who serve this community and grateful for the partnerships that continue to make Orange Township stronger.

We also want to sincerely thank the Messer family for allowing us to share in this moment and for taking the time to recognize the people behind the response. Their appreciation brought attention to the dedication, preparation, and teamwork our public safety personnel put forward every day.

From all of us at Orange Township Fire Department, thank you to the Messer family, Parkview EMS, and everyone who continues to support the work of those serving our community.

— Chief Landers
