In 1931 the fee was lowered to $25.00 per year! In about 1935, H. Kellogg started a project to provide Rome with its own volunteer fire department. The department started with 15 men and each man was supplied with two 12 quart buckets which were painted red. these were only to be used for fires and when a man answered the call, he had to bring his buckets along. There are Leaders, Heroes, and Legends, Chief Reed was all three. We were lucky enough to Celebrate his retirement and unbelievable devotion to the Middlefield Fire Department for nearly 40 years just last week.

Today we mourn his loss. We are forever grateful for what Chief Reed represents! He was a proud and faithful leader who cared so deeply for the Men and Women of The Middlefield Fire Department and the people of his community. A proud U.S. Navy Veteran, and a prouder Father, Grandfather and Chief.

Chief Reed, your legacy will live on forever. We will take it from here boss!
