This week we joined with about 200 partners for the inaugural Disaster Response Symposium hosted in Rome at The Forum.

Topics included after-action reports and lessons learned from Hurricane Helene plus responses to active shooter in Pickens County and the Historic Courthouse fire. We also welcomed US National Weather Service Peachtree City Georgia and a special panel discussion with responders on the ground during Hurricane Helene.

Special thanks to friends who joined us on the event committee to make a memorable event: Polk Co EMA, Carroll Co EMA and GEMA.

Dangerously high winds were the talk of today's briefing with the National Weather Service. Now is the time to refill your generators as we anticipate multiple trees down with power lines.

Microbursts are our concern because they can sometimes be just as damaging as tornadoes. Don't get caught waiting for the "tornado alert" when there are other alerts being issued.

Our first briefing with National Weather Service was today. Although we are not in the direct path of the hurricane, our position on the eastern side is where the strongest winds, heaviest rains and micro-bursts or tornadoes may occur.

Timing could be late Friday evening moving into Saturday morning. Meteorologists believe this could be an 18 to 24 hour event.

Flood and wind watches are in effect. Winds of 15 to 25 mph should start to pick up Friday afternoon with moderate rain.

Crews are responding to several reports of downed trees. Lots of heavy rain and wind at our office!

Wind gusts here were reported at 17 mph here but that's questionable. A citizen report from Lindale was 20 mph but some in Kingston were as high as 26 mph.

Any other reports from followers?
