đźš’ New equipment to support our firefighters! đźš’

Butler County Fire District #3 has received funding through the Kansas Forest Service Volunteer Firefighter Assistance Grant program to purchase 25 wildland particulate masks—one for each firefighter—and a Motorola APX 8000 dual-band portable radio with a speaker microphone and an extra battery.

The masks will help reduce exposure to airborne particulates during wildland firefighting, while the radio will support communication with dispatch and neighboring departments during emergency responses.

The total cost is $10,059, with the Fire District contributing $5,060 and the Forest Service contributing $4,999 toward the purchase. This assistance helps us stretch local dollars while equipping our firefighters to better serve our community.

Thank you to the Kansas Forest Service for supporting our department and investing in firefighter safety!

🔥 Fire Prevention Week starts today!

October 4–10 is Fire Prevention Week, and this year’s theme is “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower!” 🦸‍♂️🔋

BCFD #3 reminds everyone that small changes in how we charge our phones, tablets, power tools, and other battery-powered devices can help prevent fires.

âś… Use the charger that came with your device or one approved by the manufacturer.
✅ Charge on a hard, flat surface—not a bed, pillow, or couch.
âś… Unplug devices when they are fully charged.
âś… Stop using a device if the battery becomes unusually hot, swells, leaks, or develops a strange smell.
âś… Keep charging devices clear of exits so your family always has a way out.

Take a few minutes this week to review your family’s charging habits, test your smoke alarms, and practice your home fire escape plan.

Safe charging is a superpower we can all use! đź’Şđźš’

Yesterday morning, BCFD #3 was honored to participate in the wash down ceremony for Andover Fire-Rescue’s new Engine 16!

A wash down ceremony is a longstanding fire service tradition in which a new apparatus is ceremonially sprayed with water to welcome it into service.

Congratulations to our neighbors at Andover Fire-Rescue on this new addition to their fleet, and thank you for including us in the celebration!

Thanks to Central Kansas Emergency Photography for the great photos!

Butler County Fire District #3 was honored to be part of today’s dedication of the Rose Hill 9/11 Memorial.

Fire Chief Kevin Webster and Deputy Chief Judd Gifford are founding members of the Memorial Committee and have been actively involved in the planning and construction of this meaningful tribute. We are proud of their dedication—and grateful to everyone whose time, talents, and generosity made this memorial possible.

May it forever serve as a place of remembrance, reflection, and a promise that we will never forget.

Today marks 25 years since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001—a day that forever changed our nation.

Butler County Fire District #3 remembers the nearly 3,000 lives lost, including the 343 FDNY firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice. We honor the first responders who ran toward danger, the survivors who carried unimaginable burdens, and the families whose lives were forever changed.

Twenty-five years have passed, but our promise remains:

We will remember the lives lost.
We will honor the courage shown.
We will never forget.
