đźš’ TRAINING TOGETHER, GROWING TOGETHER! đźš’

Roseboro Fire Department was proud to host a Fire Ops 6 class, focusing on ropes and rescue operations. Firefighters from across Sampson County and several surrounding counties came together for valuable hands-on training.

This is another great example of how our new fire station is benefiting not only our department, but the fire service throughout our region. With the additional space and facilities, we can host training opportunities, welcome neighboring departments, and continue building stronger partnerships.

Our new station is more than just a place to house fire trucks — it’s a place to learn, train, and grow together, and something our entire community can be proud of!

We are heartbroken to share that Firefighter Andrew Brokes died in the line of duty this morning while searching for victims inside the building at 410 Marly Drive.

Firefighter Brokes, who joined the Durham Fire Department on May 5, 2025, served the Durham community with dedication, courage, and a deep commitment to the residents of the Bull City.

“This is a heartbreaking loss for our department, the family, and the entire community,” said Durham Fire Chief Robert J. Zoldos II. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones and his colleagues, and we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during this unimaginably difficult time. The department is standing with and supporting his family in every possible way.”

Two other firefighters were injured during the incident and were taken to Duke Medical Center. Both have received care and are expected to make full recoveries.

This loss is felt across our entire department. Firefighters step into unpredictable situations every day in service to others, and Firefighter Brokes embodied that calling with honor.

We know our community is grieving alongside us. If you wish to share your condolences or messages of support, they will be received with gratitude by our department and by those who knew and loved Firefighter Brokes.

In the coming days, we will share more information about how we will honor his service and support the firefighters involved in this incident.

Thank you, Durham, for surrounding our DFD family with care during this profoundly difficult time.

The North Carolina SBI is assisting the Durham fire department with a fire. One firefighter has died in the line of duty and two other others have been transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. There are multiple agencies on scene actively working the fire. Please avoid the area of Marly Road and Highway 70.

đźš’ Ever wonder why you sometimes see fire departments from neighboring communities coming through town to help us?

It’s called Mutual Aid.

For certain emergencies, we know right from the start that we may need additional fire trucks and additional firefighters. Because of this, neighboring departments are often automatically dispatched at the same time we are. This saves valuable time instead of waiting until we arrive on scene, determine we need more help, and then request additional resources.

Mutual aid is most commonly used on incidents such as house fires and serious vehicle crashes, where extra equipment and manpower can make a big difference.

The numbers shown in this graphic are just a snapshot of the mutual aid assistance we received last month.

As a volunteer fire department, we depend on our neighboring departments—and they depend on us—to make sure our communities have the resources they need when an emergency happens.

đźš’ We sincerely thank all of our neighboring fire departments and firefighters for answering the call and helping us when we need it.

Mutual Aid = Neighbors Helping Neighbors. ❤️🚒

We had a great time attending the Mintz Fall Festival on Saturday! 🚒🍂

We always enjoy getting out in the community and giving the kids a chance to check out the fire trucks, see the equipment, and learn a little about what we do.

Thank you for having Roseboro Fire Department be a part of the fun! 🚒❤️
