The 2026 Legislative Session begins two weeks from today; do you know who your people are? If you're new to South Dakota, recently moved from one side of the state to the other, or live in a legislative district with a newly appointed legislator due to resignation or death, you may not be sure who represents you. The LRC website provides a number of resources that offer that information: the Find My Legislators interactive map, the 2026 Legislator Listing, and the Legislator Contacts Listing with links to each member's profile. All can be accessed by clicking the "2026 LEGISLATORS" box at https://sdlegislature.gov/

Federal agencies are moving several Native education programs out of the Department of Education and into new homes within the Department of the Interior and the Department of Labor. As these changes take shape, clear information is essential for students, families, Tribal Nations, and educators.

To help our community understand what’s shifting, NIEA has created a factsheet, FAQ, and a readable chart explaining what we know so far. You can access all resources here: https://www.niea.org/native-ed-transfers

We will continue to share updates as more information becomes available.
