The Roseburg Police Department would like to recognize and thank Bailey's Veterinary Clinic for their devotion to the RPD K9 program. On 09/27/2026, K9 Sherman had a sudden medical emergency and was rushed to Bailey's for emergency treatment.

Bailey's staff immediately took Sherman into their care and spent several hours monitoring his condition to ensure he was safe to go home to his family. They have since evaluated Sherman and confirmed he is safe to return to work after a week off from patrol. Sherman is back to his usual self and is excited to be back at work. Bailey's staff not only took care of Sherman, but also waived his medical bills following the intensive care he received.

Bailey's Veterinary Clinic is an integral part of the K9 program and we appreciate their continued dedication to not only our program, but all of the local police agencies programs as well.

Thank you, Bailey's staff, for taking care of Sherman.

Today, we pause to remember the nine innocent lives that were taken from our community on October 1, 2015.

Lucero Alcaraz
Quinn Cooper
Lucas Eibel
Jason Johnson
Lawrence Levine
Sarena Moore
Treven Anspach
Rebecka Carnes
Kim Saltmarsh Dietz

We also remember their families and friends, the first responders and the UCC students and staff who were on campus that day.

In remembrance of the nine lives our community lost, Roseburg Police Officers wear a special badge during the month of October. The badge has nine golden rays appearing from behind the state of Oregon outline symbolizing each of the nine individuals we tragically lost on October 1, 2015.

To this day, we are thankful for our community and partnering agencies who joined together as one.

We remember.

K9 SHERMAN TRACKS DOWN WANTED MAN WHO RAN FROM POLICE

On August 26th, 2025, Officer Dahl and K9 Sherman responded to the 200 block of SE Pine and attempted to contact a subject who had been developed as a suspect in a theft reported about an hour prior. Upon contacting the subject, he was identified and he immediately fled across the river and onto Elk Island. With the assistance of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, numerous officers and deputies surrounded the area. Officer Dahl and Sherman began tracking the subject and ultimately found him hiding in some brush along the river's edge. The subject gave up upon being challenged by K9 Sherman and was taken into custody without further incident. He was then lodged at Douglas County Corrections for a Winston Police Department Felony warrant for Failure to Appear on Burglary in the Second Degree and Theft in the First Degree, a felony probation violation, Escape in the Third Degree, Theft in the Second Degree, and two counts of Criminal Trespass in the Second Degree.

K9 Sherman is a two-and-a-half year old Dutch Shepherd who has been with the Roseburg Police Department for 15 months. He was purchased by anonymous donors in the community and gifted to the agency. The Roseburg Police Department's K9 program is supported financially by private donations and the Friends of Umpqua Valley Police K9 Programs, a non-profit organization whose mission is to support local police K9 teams. Bailey's Veterinary Clinic provides the medical care for K9 Sherman.

We would like to thank the Deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office who responded to this incident and assisted in this arrest.
