Changes are coming to the Oregon Health Plan (OHP). We're here to help you prepare!

New federal requirements under H.R. 1 (The Big Beautiful Bill) will change how some Oregonians qualify for and renew their Oregon Health Plan coverage, also known as Medicaid. These changes may mean additional steps to keep your OHP coverage, making it especially important to understand what's coming and what you may need to do.

To help our communities prepare, Aviva Health is expanding access to OHP enrollment assistance at our clinics throughout Douglas County.

Beginning in October, members of our Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) team will be available at the following locations:
📍 Sutherlin: Second and fourth Thursday of each month
📍 Myrtle Creek: Second and fourth Tuesday of each month, beginning Oct. 27
📍 Drain: Third Thursday of each month
📍 Glide: Schedule coming soon

Our team can help community members with OHP enrollment questions, understanding coverage requirements and navigating the enrollment process.

You do not need to be an Aviva Health patient to receive assistance. These services are available to everyone in our community.

If you have questions about OHP or need help navigating the changes ahead, we're here for you.

Questions? Call us at (541) 672-9596.

No one should have to take on debt to put food on the table.

As reported in the The New York Times, United Way’s 211 data shows requests for food assistance rose at least 20% last year in multiple states. Behind those requests are people making difficult choices to meet basic needs.

United Way and the 211 network connect people to local resources, including food assistance. If you or someone you know needs support, call 211.

Food banks across the country are seeing more families come through their doors.

NBC News surveyed food banks in 35 states and Washington, D.C. Nearly three in four said they’re serving more people than last year. At the same time, higher food and fuel costs mean every dollar has to stretch further to get food to communities.

No single thing is behind this. Grocery prices, rent, transportation, health care costs and changes to food assistance are all adding up at once. Neighbors are telling us this isn’t a short rough patch. In our recent survey of people who have experienced food insecurity, 81% said people in their community are dealing with long-term financial stress, not temporary hardship.

That’s why food banks are planning now for a longer stretch of need. Programs like SNAP and local food banks work best side by side, and both types of support must remain strong for neighbors.

Today is World Food Day, a reminder that everyone deserves reliable access to nutritious food.

At The FISH of Roseburg, that commitment starts with our neighbors. Families balancing groceries and rent. Older adults living on fixed incomes. People facing illness, job loss, or an unexpected expense. Working households whose paychecks simply do not stretch far enough.

Everyone who comes through our doors deserves to be welcomed with dignity, respect, and kindness. Asking for help should never be a source of shame.

You can help make food security a reality in our community by donating food or funds, volunteering, joining the Roseburg Food Project’s Green Bag program, or helping someone connect with food resources.

To our volunteers, donors, and community partners: thank you for showing up for our neighbors. Your support puts food on tables and helps people feel less alone.

Food is a human right. Today and every day, we remain committed to helping our community access it.

FRIDAY HONK: IT'S WORLD FOOD DAY!

Honk Herd, today is WORLD FOOD DAY!

A whole day dedicated to FOOD?!

FINALLY. MY KIND OF HOLIDAY.

I was prepared to celebrate with a buffet, a tiny party hat, and possibly a parade featuring me riding a giant potato.

But Jenn says there's actually a little history behind this holiday.

World Food Day is celebrated around the globe every October 16 to recognize the founding of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization back in 1945.

That's 81 years of reminding the world that EVERYONE deserves access to good, nutritious food.

And that includes our friends and neighbors right here in Douglas County.

Because hunger doesn't just happen somewhere far away. It happens right here. To working families, seniors, children, and people we see every single day.

And here's the good news, Honk Herd.

WE CAN DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!

Donate a few groceries. Join the Roseburg Food Project's Green Bag Program. Volunteer at FISH. Make a financial donation. Check on a neighbor. Share a meal.

You don't have to change the whole world today. Just make your little corner of it a little better.

And remember, HUNGER DOESN'T HAVE A LOOK. Nobody should feel embarrassed about needing a little help.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got a World Food Day parade to organize.

Still looking for someone to drive the giant potato.

HONK.

Make good choices.
