🚶‍♀️🚲 October is Pedestrian & Bicycle Safety Month!

With so many people out walking, biking, and enjoying the roads around Wintergreen, it’s a good time for all of us to slow down and pay a little extra attention.

A few simple reminders:
• Drivers — slow down and give pedestrians and bicyclists plenty of room.
• Pedestrians — make eye contact and be visible.
• Bicyclists — follow the rules of the road and use reflectors when riding in low-light conditions.
• Everyone — stay alert and put the phone down.

Whether you're behind the wheel, on a bike, or walking, we're all responsible for keeping each other safe. Let's look out for one another! 💙

The Wintergreen Police Department would like to congratulate Sergeant Randy Brooks, Administrator James Thomas, and Lieutenant Scott Folsom for receiving the FBI-LEEDA (Law Enforcement Executive Development Association) Trilogy Award. The award comes after successfully completing three week-long courses in supervision, command, and executive level leadership and management. The FBI-LEEDA Trilogy Award is a prestigious achievement recognized worldwide.

Earlier this week, we received reports of a scammer using the Wintergreen Police Department’s phone number to make calls appear as though they were coming from us. This is known as “spoofing,” and unfortunately, it’s just one of the many ways scammers try to make their calls seem legitimate.

With that in mind, we wanted to reshare this quick video with some helpful tips on recognizing and preventing fraud.

Remember, just because a familiar or trusted phone number shows up on your caller ID doesn’t always mean that’s who is actually calling. If something doesn’t seem right, hang up and verify the call yourself.

Take a minute to watch and share with your family and friends. A little awareness can go a long way in keeping someone from becoming a victim. 💙

On Tuesday, September 22, 2026, the Wintergreen Police Department received reports of a scammer using the department’s phone number. This tactic, known as spoofing, uses technology to disguise the caller’s actual number and make the call appear legitimate. Because spoofing can mislead unsuspecting recipients, use caution when answering unexpected calls.
