**MESSAGE FROM THE ROSEVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT**

It has come to our attention that there have been numerous false social media reports with reference to our department being involved in an officer involved shooting in the area of Martin & Groesbeck roads today.

THIS IS COMPLETELY FALSE INFORMATION.

Our department did respond to an incident this afternoon in this area involving a person suffering from a mental health crisis episode. This individual was taken into custody safely and transported to a local facility to receive the necessary care needed.

At no time was there any threat to the community.
Thank you and be safe!

Chief Burley was honored to be the featured guest at the Eastside Community Chamber's "Network UP!" meeting this morning held at our Chick-fil-A here in Roseville. Networking with our community partners is a priority for the Chief as it is a great way to build trust, open up the lines of communication and strengthen the relationships between law enforcement and the neighborhoods he serves.

Thank you to all who came out and attended this awesome event.

On Monday evening at the Eastside Chamber of Commerce salute to excellence award's banquet, Officer Zackery Wiederhold was proudly recognized as the 2026 Roseville Officer of the Year.

Officer Wiederhold responded with other Officers to a domestic disturbance earlier this year. Officer Wiederhold demonstrated extreme bravery and courage as Officers exchanged gunfire with a dangerous individual. During this fight, Officer Wiederhold suffered a near fatal head wound. While not knowing the severity of his injury, he had the presence of mind to direct a fellow Officer to retrieve a medical kit to address his needs.

Officer Wiederhold faced evil, fought, persevered and survived by harnessing his training and experience during a dangerous, high stress event. He is truly deserving of this award and we are happy he is a warrior on our team. Congratulations Zack! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

**MESSAGE FROM THE CHIEF OF POLICE**

To the Residents of Roseville,

After 32 years of proudly serving this community as a police officer and, ultimately, as your Chief of Police, the time has come for me to say farewell.

It is difficult to put into words what this city and its people have meant to me. For more than three decades, I have had the privilege of serving alongside dedicated men and women who chose a life of service, and I have been fortunate to work with countless residents who shared in our commitment to making this community a safe, welcoming, and better place for everyone.

From my first day as a police officer to my final day as Chief, I have tried to carry out my responsibilities with honor, courage, fairness, and the utmost integrity. I have always understood that wearing the badge was not simply a job it was a tremendous responsibility and a privilege entrusted to me by the people I served.

I am deeply grateful to you, the residents, for allowing me that privilege. Thank you for your unwavering support of our police department and for the trust you placed in us, especially during the most challenging times. Your encouragement, your appreciation, and even your willingness to hold us accountable made us stronger and reminded us every day of whom we served.

Over the years, I have witnessed this community come together in times of celebration, hardship, tragedy, and change. I have shared in countless moments that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. The people I have met, the relationships I have built, and the experiences we have shared will always be among the greatest honors of my life.

I leave this position with an overwhelming sense of gratitude and pride not simply for what we accomplished, but for the opportunity to have been part of this community for 32 years. While I may be retiring from the police department, I will never stop caring about the city and the people who have been such an important part of my life.

To the officers, dispatchers, professional staff, command staff, and all those who serve this community, thank you for your dedication, sacrifice, and friendship. It has been an honor to stand beside you and to serve alongside some truly exceptional people. I have never taken that honor for granted.

And to the residents, thank you for allowing me to wear the badge, for trusting me with the responsibility of protecting and serving your community, and for standing behind the men and women of this department. Thirty-two years is a long time, but in many ways, it feels like only yesterday that I began this journey.

I leave knowing that I gave this community my very best, always striving to serve with honor and the utmost integrity. I am proud of the career I chose, proud of the people I served with, and most of all, grateful for the people I had the privilege to serve.
It has been the honor of my life to serve as your police officer and your Chief of Police.

With deepest gratitude and respect,

Mitchell J. Berlin
Chief of Police

**Chief Berlin had the privilege of flying with the Border Patrol Air and Marine Operations Unit last week and cruised over the city he protected and served for 32 years.

Recently, we had seven Officers recognized for their brave and heroic actions at the MACP Awards & Citations Banquet.

These Officers answered the call to duty and selflessly risked their lives to protect our citizens and our community when faced with two separate incidents where individuals were intent on committing acts of violence. These Officers not only performed their jobs courageously, but they relied on their training and instincts to successfully restore peace to our streets.

Not all heroes wear capes. Some wear a badge and answer the call, no matter the risk. We thank these Officers for their bravery and service to our great city. 💙💙
