Golden Gate Bridge Closure
for July 4th fireworks.
As we near the Independence Day holiday, the Town wants to ensure that we are all aware of potential impacts from the Freedom 250 fireworks at, and the resulting closure of the Golden Gate Bridge — plus have the latest public safety advisements:
Expect major traffic impacts in Southern Marin & Eastbound Sir Francis Drake on July 4.
As part of the America’s 250th Birthday Celebration, the City of San Francisco plans to host a fireworks display on the Golden Gate Bridge on July 4.
Travelers planning to view the San Francisco fireworks from Marin should anticipate severe congestion, limited parking, and road closures.
Caltrans expects full closures of Highway 101 South of Spencer Avenue between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Southbound traffic will be turned around at Spencer Avenue in Sausalito, with gradual reopening beginning around 10:00 p.m. Travelers heading into San Francisco are encouraged to use the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge or the Bay Bridge instead.
Officials recommend avoiding the area or using public transit.
Fireworks are illegal throughout Marin County, including “Safe and Sane” fireworks. Enforcement will be in effect throughout the holiday weekend, with fines beginning at $410. Illegal fireworks can be reported to the Marin County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency line at (415) 473-2311.
Wildfire risk remains high. In addition to avoiding fireworks, residents should use caution with barbecues, fire pits, and other open flames, and ensure all fires are completely extinguished.
Water safety is critical during the holiday weekend. Parents and caregivers should provide constant, sober, and active supervision of children around water and ensure properly fitted life jackets are used when appropriate.
