πŸš’πŸ”₯ OCTOBER IS NATIONAL FIRE SAFETY MONTH! πŸ”₯πŸš’

This month, our firefighters had the opportunity to teach 463 kids about fire safety through hands-on learning and some pretty exciting experiences! πŸ‘¨β€πŸš’πŸš¨

The kids got an up-close look at our fire trucks, explored the different tools and equipment firefighters use, and learned how they help us during emergencies!

But the real excitement began when they stepped inside our Fire Safety House! 🏠πŸ”₯

Our Fire Safety House gives kids the opportunity to experience realistic fire scenarios in a safe, controlled environment while learning important lessons that could one day save their lives!

πŸšͺ Heated Doors: Kids learned how to use the back of their hand to check a door for heat before opening it.

🚨 Smoke Detectors: Realistic smoke alarm sounds helped teach the importance of recognizing an alarm and knowing what to do when they hear one.

πŸ’¨ Simulated Smoke: Artificial smoke allowed the kids to practice getting low and crawling beneath the smoke to safety.

πŸͺœ Escape Routes: The kids put their new skills to the test by climbing out a window and down an escape ladder, learning how to safely exit during an emergency.

Our goal is to make fire safety education FUN, INTERACTIVE, and MEMORABLE! We want every child to leave knowing what to do if a fire ever happens in their home.

❀️ A huge THANK YOU to the schools, teachers, and all 463 kids who participated! We had just as much fun teaching you as you did learning!

πŸ”₯ Remember: Fire safety starts with education, and even our youngest community members can learn skills that save lives!

Our crews responded to 127 total incidents throughout Ross Township and our surrounding communities, including 85 EMS runs and 42 fire-related calls.

Beyond emergency response, September also included:
β€’ 19 fire inspections
β€’ 6 smoke detector installations
β€’ 57 hours of training
β€’ Mutual aid provided 7 times
β€’ Annual school inspections, fire drills, and alarm testing

Every number on this report represents time spent responding, training, inspecting, preparing, and working to keep our community safe.

πŸ”§πŸš— Behind the scenes, our department works hard to make every dollar count.

Whenever possible, we handle many of our smaller vehicle maintenance and repair needs in-house rather than sending vehicles out to a shop. This includes things like oil and filter changes, brake work, and other routine maintenance on our smaller vehicles and staff cars.

A big part of making that possible is Eric Simon, who has been with us for more than 25 years. Before joining our department, Eric was an ASE-certified mechanic, and he continues to put that experience and knowledge to good use helping keep our vehicles maintained and on the road.

By completing these smaller repairs and routine maintenance in-house, we’re able to reduce outside labor costs, limit vehicle downtime, and help extend the life of our equipment.

It’s just one more example of the many jobs that happen behind the scenes to keep our department running efficiently and responsibly. πŸ”§πŸš™

πŸš’ TRAINING SPOTLIGHT πŸ”₯

Members of the Ross Township Fire Department recently completed a hands-on self-extrication training exercise designed to prepare firefighters for situations where they may need to escape from a compromised structure.

During the training, firefighters worked their way through a standard wall stud opening while overcoming obstacles including drywall and electrical wiring. The exercise simulates conditions firefighters could encounter if they become trapped or disoriented inside a structure, requiring them to remain calm, assess their surroundings, and safely extricate themselves.

Training like this helps strengthen confidence, problem-solving skills, situational awareness, and the ability to operate effectively under stressful conditions.

A special thank you to the Morgan Township Fire Department for providing the self-extrication prop used during this training. Partnerships between neighboring departments allow us to share resources, strengthen our skills, and continue improving the level of service we provide to our communities.

πŸ”₯ Train hard. Stay prepared. Serve safely.

Continual training remains an important part of ensuring our personnel are ready to respond safely and effectively whenever our community calls for help.

πŸš’ Thank You, CSX! πŸš’
Ross Township Fire Department is proud to announce that we have received a $4500 grant from CSX to help replace 4 of our outdated Knox KeySecure systems on our fire apparatus.

This grant will allow us to upgrade our access-control equipment, providing firefighters with faster and more reliable access to secured properties during emergency responses. The new KeySecure systems will help improve response efficiency, firefighter safety, and protection of the residents and businesses we serve.

For those who don't know, a Knox Box is a secure, heavy-duty key box installed outside a commercial, residential, or other protected property. It allows authorized fire and emergency personnel to quickly access building keys without having to force entry during an emergency, which saves the property owner from damage to a door or window. The boxes are tamper-resistant and designed specifically for emergency services. Access is restricted to authorized emergency personnel, helping protect the property while allowing firefighters to get inside quickly when seconds matter.

We are extremely grateful to CSX for investing in our firefighters and our community. Partnerships like this make a real difference and help us continue providing the highest level of emergency service to Ross Township and the Village of Millville.
Thank you, CSX, for supporting Ross Township Fire Department! πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸš’

Twenty-five years later, the pain of September 11, 2001 remains, but so does the remarkable unity, courage, and strength our nation found in one of its darkest hours.

Today, we remember the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the first responders who answered the call without hesitation.

May we honor their memory by choosing kindness, standing together, and continuing to carry forward the spirit of unity that followed that day.
