I've started an Etsy shop... I've got my parents' guides on there now, but soon I'll have these gorgeous literary banners!

I couldn't bear to recycle books that were in pretty rough condition... so I found a way to up-cycle them! I managed to only keep two for myself but I tell you- these Winnie the Pooh are really tempting me. And Sesame Street. AND the music sheets. And the antique early readers are precious.

My SIL thinks we should pre-string them, but since they're mostly double- sided, I think the buyer should. I don't want to choose which side to display! What do you think?

Remember reading Anne of Green Gables and getting really excited about puffed sleeves but not fully understanding the fabric? I want to make fabric samples for the library so kids interested in sewing, fashion, or just better understanding their favorite characters can do so. Help!

Looking for swatches of cotton, linen, denim, corduroy, flannel, muslin, canvas, wool, felt, fleece, velvet, satin, silk, chiffon, lace, tulle, jersey knit, rib knit, swiss dot, cambric, seersucker, voile, lawn, poplin, broadcloth, calico, gingham, chambray, twill, ticking, damask, brocade, jacquard, eyelet, organza, georgette, crepe, rayon, challis, batiste, gabardine, boucle, herringbone, terry cloth, velour, chenille, moleskin, sateen, oxford cloth, dobby, pique, mesh, netting, sherpa, organza, taffeta or whatever else I'm missing.

I'm making pouches! Ideally 2 pcs each- at least 4x4in or 6x6in. Thank you!

I’ve spent years collecting books so you don’t have to hunt down good ones every time your preschooler becomes interested in something—or your family hits a new stage.

This pouch is New Sibling: illustrated books to pull out when a new baby is joining the family. We also have pouches about animals, bugs, farms, seasons, community helpers, losing a tooth, moving, the death of a grandparent, colors, numbers, shapes.... everything you're introducing them to.

There are more than 130 pouches now, each with 5 books chosen especially for your children!

You don’t have to buy them, store them, or figure out what to do with them when your child has moved on. Borrow a few, enjoy them for a while, bring them back, and choose something new.

If you’re in Round Rock, Georgetown, Pflugerville, Hutto, Cedar Park, Leander, or the greater Austin area and have preschoolers at home, Nest is taking members now.

Homeschool moms already make a thousand decisions.

That’s how the library helps: this Currency Pouch is already put together: carefully chosen books plus real bills and coins from around the world that children can hold, compare, sort, examine, and wonder about.

Borrow the pouch. Put it on the table. Explore it together. Give it back when you’re done.

I want the Fallen Sparrow Library to carry some of the mental load of homeschooling—not by giving you one more program to follow, but by putting interesting, worthwhile things into your hands without requiring you to find and assemble all of them yourself.

Are you in the Austin area? Come find your people—and borrow our stuff. ❤️

The Fallen Sparrow Library exists in my head as this bustling place full of families who love beautiful old books, children carrying home stacks of stories they never would have found otherwise, moms discovering that someone has already done the work of finding and sorting and reading and researching for them.

But right now, a lot of the reality looks like sitting at a table for hours with another box of books. Peel off the old sticker. Add the new sticker. Look up the title. Clone the record if we can. Create it if we can’t. Figure out where the book belongs. Research the things a parent might want to know about it. Write the Content Considerations. Print them. Attach them. Quality check everything. Put the book on the shelf. Repeat.

And repeat. And repeat. Thousands of books are waiting, and sometimes the distance between what the library is today and what I can see it becoming feels enormous! Thanks for being here with me. Tell a friend! I would appreciate it a lot. 💖

I used to think I couldn't homeschool math properly unless I owned a base ten set.

I never did get one beyond the cardboard version.

And now, somehow, I have three real sets sitting here—ready to become library resources that homeschool families can borrow instead of buy.

There are so many things like this in homeschooling. Things that would be wonderful to have for a week, or a month, or for one particular child at one particular stage—but that every family shouldn't have to purchase, store, and eventually figure out what to do with.

That's a big part of what I'm building Fallen Sparrow Library to be.

And maybe it's appropriate that there are three sets right now, because I have three patron families too.

We're still counting in ones.

But that's how you get to tens. ❤️

Are you in the Austin area? I'm looking for the homeschool families who want to build this community with us.

There is a strange loneliness in building something you are convinced people want, while still trying to find the people who want it. Repeat. And repeat. And repeat. Thousands of books are waiting, and sometimes the distance between what the library is today and what I can see it becoming feels enormous. Then there is the other hard part: finding the living-book people scattered across the Austin area. I know you’re out there—the moms who get excited about an old biography with wonderful illustrations, who would rather hand a child a beautiful book than another screen, who understand why a carefully chosen library is different from simply having access to a million titles. But finding each other in a city this big is surprisingly hard. And in the middle of all of this, I have three little Nest patrons. Just three. And I am ridiculously thankful for them. They are checking out our preschool pouches while I am still figuring out the systems, discovering what needs clearer instructions, learning how pickup and returns actually work in real life, and fixing the little problems you can’t anticipate until real families start using what you built. They are letting Fallen Sparrow become a real library instead of an idea.
