🏫💙 National Principals Month Spotlight: Sherita Fuller!

October is National Principals Month, and we're taking the opportunity to recognize the dedicated leaders who make a difference across Person County Schools!

🌟 Today, we're highlighting Sherita Fuller, Principal of Helena Elementary School!

We asked Ms. Fuller what she loves most about being a principal, and here's what she shared:

💬 “I love being an elementary school principal because every day brings an opportunity to make a difference in a child’s life. I enjoy building relationships with students, families, and staff and creating a school where everyone feels valued and supported. Watching children grow in confidence, celebrating their accomplishments and supporting teachers through both challenges and success make this work meaningful to me even on the hardest days. I am reminded that our school can be a place of hope, encouragement and opportunity. I am proud to be a part of that.”

Ms. Fuller's words reflect the heart of elementary school leadership — building meaningful relationships, celebrating student growth, supporting educators, and creating a school community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

💙 Thank you, Ms. Fuller, for your dedication, compassion, and commitment to making Helena Elementary a place where students, staff, and families feel valued and supported!

🏫 What's on the ballot for Person County Schools?

On November 3, 2026, Person County voters will consider a $107 million school bond referendum for proposed school construction and renovation projects.

The proposed plan includes building one new middle school to serve students in grades 6–8 and adapting the existing Northern and Southern Middle School facilities for elementary school use.

The proposal is intended to address facility needs identified through the district's planning process, including safety and security, building capacity, aging infrastructure, and space for educational programs.

The referendum will determine whether Person County is authorized to issue the bonds and levy the taxes required to repay them.

🌟 Today, we're highlighting Daniel Watson, Principal of Carolina Community Academy (CCA)!

We asked Mr. Watson what he loves most about being a principal, and here's what he shared:

💬 “I love being a principal because it allows me to serve a community and be a force for good. Our work reaches far beyond academics. We confront inequities, food insecurity, and barriers to resources that affect children’s lives every day. Where data reveals barriers, relationships help us open doors. Alongside families, we have an extraordinary opportunity to be a source of stability, encouragement, and possibility for every child who walks through our doors. I love helping children see what is possible and making sure they have the support and resources to get there!”

Mr. Watson's words remind us that school leadership is about so much more than academics. It's about building relationships, removing barriers, supporting families, and helping every child recognize their potential.

💙 Thank you, Mr. Watson, for your dedication to the CCA community and your commitment to creating opportunities for students to learn, grow, and thrive!

🗳️ What does your vote on the school bond referendum mean?

On November 3, 2026, Person County voters will decide whether to authorize $107 million in school bonds to fund proposed school construction and renovation projects.

A YES vote would authorize Person County to borrow up to $107 million for the proposed school projects and levy the taxes required to repay the bonds.
A NO vote would mean the bond is not approved, and the proposed projects would not receive funding through this referendum.

We encourage our community to learn about the proposal, understand what each vote means, and make an informed decision.

🏫💙 National Principals Month Spotlight: Dr. Dwayne Johnson!

October is National Principals Month, and we're taking the opportunity to recognize the dedicated leaders who make a difference across Person County Schools!

🐊 Today, we're highlighting Dr. Dwayne Johnson, Principal of Stories Creek Elementary School and our 2025–2026 PCS Principal of the Year!

We asked Dr. Johnson what he loves most about being a principal, and here's what he shared:

💬 “I love the privilege of turning research into practice in the hard and complex space of school. I enjoy the opportunity to be on the front lines of problem solving in the name of America’s future. On a more surface level however, I appreciate the daily interactions with our families, the continuous brainstorming with our educators, and of course witnessing the joy of students as they accomplish their goals. The togetherness of school in an effort to reach their goals resonates with me deeply and is a microcosm of our larger community.”

His response speaks to the heart of school leadership — bringing people together, supporting educators, building relationships with families, and celebrating student success.

💚 Thank you, Dr. Johnson, for your dedication to the Stories Creek community and your commitment to helping students and staff learn, grow, and succeed!

During Pride in Person at tonight’s Person County Schools Board of Education meeting, we recognized Daniel Watson, principal of Carolina Community Academy (CCA), for highlighting the value of partnerships that support students and schools across our community.

The University of North Carolina provided a $1,000 gift to Carolina Community Academy in recognition of the partnership between UNC and Person County Schools. In a thoughtful gesture of support for schools across our district, Mr. Watson requested that the funds be gifted to Person County Schools to benefit North End Elementary School.

His request reflects the spirit of collaboration and shared commitment that strengthens our schools. We are grateful for the partnership between UNC and Person County Schools, and for leaders like Mr. Watson who recognize opportunities to support students and colleagues throughout our district.

Thank you to UNC for its generosity and to Mr. Watson for demonstrating the power of partnership and a shared commitment to student success!
