That famous ‘Boop-Oop-a-Doop’ voice? Yeah… there’s history there.
Quinta Brunson is officially developing a Betty Boop movie alongside the Fleischer family, the same family behind Fleischer Studios, the original creators of Betty Boop.
When I saw the announcement, my mind immediately went back to the the conversation about Esther “Baby Esther”Jones. Esther is the young Black performer from the 1920's, that many historians believe heavily influenced the famous Betty Boop voice and personal style.
Her singing style, facial expressions, and playful “boop” sounds appeared years before Betty Boop became famous.
Later, white singer Helen Kane became famous using a very similar style and eventually sued Fleischer Studios claiming Betty Boop copied HER persona. During the court, the footage of Baby Esther were introduced as evidence showing Esther had been performing that style earlier. Kane ultimately lost the lawsuit.
Historians still debate how directly Betty Boop herself was modeled after Esther Jones. But what many people DO agree on is that a young Black girl’s performance style "inspired" one of the most recognizable cartoon characters in pop culture.
Black performers influencing American culture while somebody else becomes the face most people remember has happened throughout music, fashion, dance, language, beauty, and entertainment history over and over again. And is just as prevalent today.
So seeing Quinta Brunson attached to this project makes me very curious about how much of that history and cultural conversation will be acknowledged.

Antarctica’s ice shelves are crumbling faster than we feared — and it could drown our coasts in 10 meters of sea rise!
New research, as of the latest data, warns that a collapse could swallow cities, communities, and ecosystems, turning coastal life upside down. This isn’t some distant graph — it’s a real threat tied to accelerating ice loss.
The official line blames warming oceans and air, claiming higher temps make this inevitable without drastic cuts.
But let’s question that narrative: are we over-relying on climate models, or could natural cycles like volcanic heat under the ice or ocean currents be amplifying the melt? The data shows rapid weakening, yet the “why” isn’t fully locked down — past predictions have overestimated before.
Experts say it hinges on temperature rises, but the timeline’s murky — decades or centuries? The establishment pushes urgent action, yet some argue the 10-meter jump assumes worst-case emissions we might avoid.
This isn’t just science — it’s a wake-up call. Ice shelves buttress the continent; their gone, and the floodgates open.
Coastal nations face a gamble: adapt or relocate millions.
For planet lovers, it’s a stark reminder of Earth’s fragility — and our power to shape it.
Are we facing a climate tipping point, or is this a natural ebb we’re misreading?
The ice is talking, and the stakes are sky-high.
What do you think — can we turn the tide, or are we racing toward a watery future?
The clock’s ticking.

Kaepernick said the goal was always bigger than football, adding that “we have to be able to do whatever it takes… to make sure that we’re advancing our communities.”
