Join the Royal Oak Library and the Detroit Institute of Arts for a docent-led art talk to learn about the work of El Anatsui, a Ghanaian artist known for transforming discarded materials like bottle caps into monumental, tapestry-like sculptures. Through his innovative approach, Anatsui weaves together themes of community, storytelling, and ancestry. Drawing connections to works in the DIA collection that also utilize upcycled materials, the session encourages attendees to consider how they can repurpose everyday materials in their life to tell their own story.
