The Royal Oak Fire Department will be at the City-Wide Block Party, and we'd love for you to stop by and visit our table!

We'll have our CPR training mannequins on site, giving community members the opportunity to learn and practice hands-only CPR. This simple skill can make a lifesaving difference in an emergency.

Whether you've never learned CPR before or just want a refresher, our firefighters and paramedics will be there to answer questions and provide hands-on instruction.

Stop by, say hello, and learn a skill that could help save a life!

🌼 Welcome to June! 🌼

As the weather warms up, many homeowners are spending time outside planting flowers, adding landscaping, and tackling those long-awaited yard projects.

One area that often gets overlooked when digging is the flower bed near the front of your home. Every year, we respond to several gas leaks caused by homeowners accidentally damaging underground natural gas lines while planting shrubs, removing bushes, installing landscaping, or digging near their gas meter.

Before you put a shovel in the ground, make sure you contact MISS DIG 811. It’s free, easy, and can help prevent a dangerous and costly accident.

MISS DIG will notify utility companies to mark the approximate location of underground utilities on your property before you dig. Michigan law requires homeowners and contractors to contact 811 at least three business days before starting any excavation project—even small ones.

Whether you’re planting a new bush, installing a mailbox, or creating a garden bed, know what’s below before you dig.

📞 Call 811 or 1-800-482-7171
💻 Submit a request online at missdig811.org
✅ It’s free.
✅ It’s the law.
✅ It helps keep your family, neighbors, and community safe.

Have a safe and enjoyable start to summer!

A huge thank you to the Madison Heights Fire Department for hosting some heavy extrication training this week. Training alongside our neighbors makes us all stronger — and the better prepared our crews are for tough situations, the better we can take care of our community.

The Royal Oak Fire Department hosted one of our in-house Fire Officer training classes as we continue investing in the development of our future leaders and strengthening the service we provide to the Royal Oak community.

Fire Marshal Gardner taught the class about the importance of fire investigation and how determining the cause of a fire can help improve future fire prevention efforts. Understanding how fires start allows us to better educate the public, identify hazards, and work toward preventing similar incidents from happening again.

Training and education remain a critical part of preparing our firefighters and officers to serve our community safely, effectively, and professionally.

Another great turnout for our Hands-Only CPR class! Every month through September, we’re helping give our community the confidence and skills to step in during an emergency and possibly save a life.

You never know when you might be someone’s hero. Thank you to everyone who came out, asked questions, and got hands-on with us. We can’t wait to see even more familiar and new faces at our next class on June 20th!
