Who said learning about culture and history can't be fun? Families had a blast last Saturday playing an assortment of taiko drums and a shamisen with Tampa Taiko while learning about the significance of and traditions tied to these marvelous Japanese instruments at the SouthShore Regional Library.

The SouthShore Regional Library will begin its renovations on June 1. The library will be opening at 12 p.m. on June 1 with limited services and collections during the renovation.

Explore and honor Japanese culture through an ancient Japanese art form, taiko. In this interactive program with Tampa Taiko, students respond to, describe, interpret, and evaluate music as performers and listeners.

The program will start at 11 a.m. at the SouthShore Regional Library on Saturday, May 30.

Recommended for children ages 6-12.

Space is limited for this program. Tickets will be available at the marked service point 30 minutes before the start of the program.

Funded by the Friends of the SouthShore Regional Library.

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. The library has partnered with the Children's Board of Hillsborough County to bring awareness of the importance of providing safe and secure environments for children by creating pinwheel gardens outside our library branches throughout the county.
