⚠️ Important Shelter Update ⚠️
As Director, I have promised our community that I will be as transparent as possible about what happens at our shelter—the good, the difficult, and everything in between.
Six dogs recently brought into Logan County Animal Care & Control have tested positive for parvovirus.
As part of our established intake protocol, these dogs were placed in our designated isolation area immediately upon arrival—before their test results were known. Because our team followed these procedures from the moment the dogs entered the shelter, they had no contact with our general shelter population. At this time, we have no indication that the virus has spread to any other dogs in our care.
Out of an abundance of caution, I have made the decision to close the shelter today while our team completes our full cleaning and disinfecting protocol. We hope to reopen tomorrow and will provide an update if that changes.
As part of this process, we had to discard several items that could not be safely disinfected. If anyone would like to help us replace them, we currently need:
🐾 2-quart metal hanging bowls
🐾 4-quart metal hanging bowls
🐾 Towels
🐾 Blankets
🐾 Dog toys
I could not be prouder of our team. Their commitment to following our SOPs, attention to detail, and immediate response helped prevent this situation from affecting the rest of the shelter population. Situations like this are exactly why these procedures are in place, and our team handled it exceptionally well.
Thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support of LCACC.
