🚔☀️ ENJOY THE WEATHER—SHARE THE ROAD!

With a few days of nice weather ahead, we know more people will be out walking and riding bikes. From behind the wheel of a patrol car, we’re watching for everyone—and we’re asking you to do the same.

🚗 Drivers: Slow down, stay focused, and check for pedestrians and cyclists before turning or pulling out. Give people on bikes plenty of space, and wait until it’s safe to pass.

🚶 Walkers: Use sidewalks whenever available. If there isn’t a sidewalk, walk facing traffic and as far from vehicles as possible. Use crosswalks when available, and check for traffic before entering the road.

🚴 Cyclists: Ride with the flow of traffic, signal your turns, and wear a helmet. Help others see you by wearing bright clothing and using reflective gear and bike lights when visibility is low.

Our message is simple: Safety comes before being in a hurry. Whether you’re driving, walking, or riding, look out for your neighbors and help everyone get home safely. 💙

🇺🇸 NEVER FORGET — SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 🇺🇸

Twenty-five years ago today, our nation was forever changed.

Today, the Russellville Fire Department pauses to remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001, and to honor the first responders who ran toward danger while others were trying to escape.

We especially remember the 343 members of the FDNY who made the ultimate sacrifice that day. Their courage, service, and selflessness continue to inspire firefighters across the country.

We also remember the firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS personnel, military members, recovery workers, and families whose lives were forever changed in the days and years that followed.

Twenty-five years later, the promise remains the same:

WE WILL NEVER FORGET.

🎉 You Made It Through the First Week of School—YAY! 🎉

Congratulations to our students, families, teachers, and drivers for making it through the first week of a brand-new school year!

As we head into week two, keep those safety habits going: slow down in school zones, watch for buses and crosswalks, put phones away while driving, and stay alert during drop-off and pickup.

Thank you for doing your part to help keep our schools and community safe. Have a great weekend—and a safe school year ahead! 🚸

Prevent Bullying: Speak Up. Reach Out.

Bullying is not “just part of growing up.” It can happen in person, online, in the hallway, or in a group chat—and no student should have to handle it alone.

If you are being bullied or see someone else being bullied:

Speak up: Tell a trusted adult—a parent, teacher, counselor, coach, or school resource officer.

Reach out: Check in with the student being targeted. A simple “Are you okay?” can make a difference.

Report it: Save messages or screenshots when appropriate and share what happened with school staff.

Keep telling someone: If the problem continues, reach out again until you get help.

📵 Your phone can wait. A child can’t. 🚸

One glance at a screen is all it takes to miss a child in a crosswalk, a stopped school bus, or a family in the pickup line.

In Arkansas school zones, handheld phone use is prohibited when children are present.

Phone down. Eyes up. Every child deserves a safe trip to school.

School Crosswalk Safety

As students head back to school, crosswalks become some of the busiest—and most important—areas on our roads.

Drivers: Slow down near schools, stay alert for children crossing, and yield at crosswalks. Never pass a vehicle stopped at a crosswalk; a child may be crossing where you cannot see them.

Students and families: Use designated crosswalks, follow crossing-guard and traffic-signal instructions, and look left-right-left before crossing. Keep phones and distractions away until you are safely across the street.

A few extra seconds of attention can help every student arrive safely—at school and back home.
