The Ruston Sports Complex is hosting the Aerial Drone Competition today, where schools from around the area are putting their piloting skills, precision, and coordination to the test!

We’re always excited to welcome events like this to Ruston, bringing together students with shared interests and talents for a little friendly competition!

What started as a search for a teaching model turned into an innovative, hands-on project built right here by the Ruston Fire Department.

When the team couldn’t find a model that demonstrated how a fire affects a home, they decided to build one themselves. Today, the team presented their miniature home for the first time at the Lincoln Parish Library’s Career Fair. It is complete with a circuit board, wiring, simulated smoke, and smoke detectors that activate as the demonstration unfolds.

The model shows how smoke and heat can move from room to room, helping people better understand how quickly fire conditions can change inside a home and the importance of having smoke detectors.

We love seeing our firefighters find creative ways to help educate and protect our community!

Help Us Keep Ruston’s Utilities Accessible!

A little extra care when placing trash and yard debris out for collection can make a big difference!

Fire hydrants: Keep at least 3 feet of clear space in all directions so emergency personnel can access them quickly.

Highlines and utility lines: Place yard debris where collection crews can safely reach it without the truck’s grabber catching overhead lines. Debris piled too close to utility lines may not be safely collectible.

Please help us keep these areas accessible and make it easier for City crews to do their jobs safely and efficiently. Thank you for helping keep Ruston running smoothly!

EAST GEORGIA AVENUE TRAFFIC CLOSURE

The City of Ruston announces, weather permitting, that the outside, eastbound lane of E. Georgia Ave., in the vicinity of 1402 E. Georgia Ave., will be closed on Monday, October 19, 2026, from 7am - noon. This closure is necessary for a utility pole replacement.

LANE & ROAD CLOSURES: I-20 at LA 544 (Tech Dr/Cooktown Rd) Interchange

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development advises motorists of upcoming lane closures along LA 544 (Cooktown Rd.) in Lincoln Parish:

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development advises motorists of upcoming nighttime lane and road closures that are a part of the LA 544 (Tech Drive) Overpass Replacement project in Ruston, LA, Lincoln Parish:

Beginning at 8 pm on Monday, October 19, 2026, the existing LA 544 (Tech Drive) overpass will be closed to traffic from the South Service Rd. to Woodward Ave. and will remain closed until 6 am Tuesday, October 20, 2026. During this same time frame there will also be a lane closure along I-20 Westbound between the Tarbutton interchange and the US 167 interchange.

Beginning at 8 pm on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, the existing LA 544 (Tech Drive) overpass will again be closed to traffic from the South Service Rd. to Woodward Ave. and will remain closed until 6 am Wednesday, October 21, 2026. During this same time frame there will also be a lane closure on I-20 Eastbound between the US 167 interchange and the Tarbutton interchange.

Beginning at 8 pm on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, the existing LA 544 (Tech Drive) overpass will again be closed to traffic from the South Service Rd. to Woodward Ave. and will remain closed until 6 am Thursday, October 22, 2026. During this same time frame there will also be a lane closure on I-20 Eastbound between the US 167 interchange and the Tarbutton interchange.

These closures are necessary to allow the Contractor to begin forming for the deck of the new LA 544 (Tech Drive) overpass. In order to conduct this work safely, I-20 traffic will be reduced to one lane Eastbound and Westbound. Traffic will then be diverted onto newly constructed diversion roads, then back onto their respective lanes on I-20.

Alternate Route:
Detour for LA 544 SB will be Woodward Ave., Baldwin St., and South Service Rd.
Detour for LA 544 NB will be South Service Rd., Baldwin St., and Woodward Ave.

LANE CLOSURES: LA 544/COOKTOWN RD - LINCOLN PARISH

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development advises motorists of upcoming lane closures along LA 544 (Cooktown Rd.) in Lincoln Parish:

Beginning at 7 am on Friday, October 16, 2026, the right and left turn exit lanes out of the Hobby Lobby shopping center parking lot onto Cooktown Rd. in Ruston will be closed to traffic and will remain closed until 12 pm on Friday, October 16, 2026. Only one lane will be open at this location to allow traffic to enter the parking lot from Cooktown Rd. Traffic can exit the parking lot onto Woodward Ave.

These lane closures are necessary to allow for the installation of new base material involved in the Tech Drive overpass replacement project.
