Broad River Water Authority Sharing highlights of your hometown water provider! Stay updated on the latest news & outages.

Broad River Water Authority (BRWA) is a local government water and sewer authority founded in 1999 by town officials who had a vision for local control of their own water resources. The young company issued bonds and purchased the Duke Power Company's Rutherford Water System in December 2000. The water system includes a modern water plant location on our water source, the Broad River, one of the cleanest and most dependable rivers in North Carolina. The distribution system serves the Towns of Ruth, Rutherfordton, and Spindale; and many other areas of the county such as the Cliffside and Harris communities. BRWA also provides water to Polk County, Inman Campobello Water District (Spartanburg County, SC), and Grassy Pond Water Company (Cherokee County, SC). BRWA is overseen by a Board of eight directors appointed by the Towns of Ruth, Rutherfordton, and Spindale and Rutherford County. Meetings, which are open to the public, are held the fouth Tuesday of each month at 5:15 pm at the Rutherfordton Town Hall.

🏭 Last week we brought you up to speed with some of the happenings from our distribution crew. Now let's see what the Water Treatment Plant has been up to:

📚 Certifications: A big congratulations to Matt and Chad on their accomplishments! We’re proud of their continued commitment to learning and growing in their careers.

🏗️ New Equipment Building: Our new equipment building is looking fabulous — and, more importantly, it’s providing much-needed protection for our equipment.

💧 Recycle Pump: We completed the start-up of our new recycle pump, another improvement to our treatment process.

🤝 Community & Industry: We were proud to host the NCWOA Western Section Meeting, bringing water professionals together for learning and collaboration.

🔧 Maintenance: Our team has also been busy cleaning, servicing, and maintaining our tanks and pumps to help keep everything running safely and efficiently.

A lot goes into producing and maintaining the quality drinking water our customers depend on every day — and our WTP crew is working hard to make it happen! 💙

💧 Did you know your tap water has some big advantages over bottled water?

At Broad River Water Authority, we're proud to provide our community with safe, reliable drinking water every day! Choosing tap water can help reduce plastic waste, save money, and keep you hydrated. 💙

Why is tap water healthier than bottled water?

We may be a little biased, but we think our Toy Story-themed scarecrow is “claw-some”! 👽🌟

So don’t be a Sid… give ours a like and help our scarecrow go to infinity and beyond! ⭐

💧 We may have been snoozing on social media, but our work hasn't skipped a beat! Over the next few weeks we'll give you recaps of what our teams have been up to.

Let’s start with our Distribution Crew, who have been keeping busy all year long! Here’s a look at just some of what they’ve been working on:

📚 Growing Their Skills
We’re proud of the certifications and training our team has accomplished this year!

👏 Jake passed his B-Distribution certification.
👏 Jay and John completed their Cross Connection/Backflow training and passed their certification tests!

And we’re excited to have a new team member, Brantley, who joined our team as the official Utility Locator. He has jumped right in and has been doing a great job with utility locates, helping Distribution projects, and on-call responsibilities.

🚧 Projects & Line Extensions
They completed the N. Cleghorn St. watermain rehabilitation project, including the installation of a new 12" water line. They’ve also completed work on line extensions along Bob Hardin Rd. and Dewitt Owens Rd., installed 200' of 2" water line off Thompson Rd., and installed a portion of a 2" line on Recreation St.

And now, the crew is hard at work on Old Stonecutter Rd., where they’re making great progress!

🔧 Keeping Water Flowing
Our crew has responded to main breaks, doing a great job getting repairs made and water back in service quickly for our customers.

They’ve also continued making new taps, completing lead and copper work, and handling the many day-to-day projects that keep our water system running.

There’s a LOT that happens behind the scenes to keep water flowing, maintain our infrastructure, and serve our customers — and our Distribution Crew works hard!

💧💙We’re proud of this team and all they’ve accomplished. 💙💧

We’ve made the call! Join us Saturday, October 3, in Historic Downtown Rutherfordton.
