The Vermont Land Use Review Board and Public Service Department have approved the 2026 Rutland Regional Plan, which was adopted by the RRPC Board of Commissioners on May 19, 2026.

At its core, the Plan, including the Regional Future Land Use Map, is a coordinated and efficient guide for economic and community development—one that is flexible, locally led, and outcome driven.

The Plan is not intended to restrict growth or impose a one-size-fits-all approach. It recognizes that housing, businesses, infrastructure, and investment are needed throughout the Region—from Mount Tabor, our smallest town, to the City of Rutland, our largest community. Every municipality has a role in the Region’s future, with development reflecting its local scale, capacity, resources, and character.

Thank you to everyone who helped create this Plan for the Region, by the Region. Approval is an important milestone, but it is not the finish line. Now the work of implementation begins!

This exciting investment will lower energy costs and emissions while providing reliable heating and cooling for decades to come!
