Wednesday, July 22, 2026

Due to the significant rainfall Grainger County received today, multiple emergency response agencies spent much of the day evacuating residents from flooded homes and rescuing stranded motorists.

The Rutledge Volunteer Fire Department was first notified at 9:38 a.m. of residents affected by flooding on Mabe Lane. At that time, the Jefferson City Fire Department Swift Water Rescue Team was requested to assist. During the initial response on Mabe Lane, eight individuals were safely rescued and transported to the Grainger Baptist Association shelter.

As flooding continued throughout the day, crews responded to multiple locations across Grainger County, conducting additional evacuations. In total, approximately 30 individuals were safely evacuated from their homes and vehicles by the combined efforts of multiple emergency response agencies.

We extend our sincere appreciation to all of the first responders who worked tirelessly throughout the day to protect our community:

* Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office
* Jefferson City Fire Department
* Jefferson City Police Department
* Jefferson County Rescue Squad
* Grainger Rescue Squad
* Rutledge Fire Department
* Blaine Fire Department
* Bean Station Rescue Squad

Your dedication, professionalism, and teamwork made a tremendous difference during today’s flooding response. Thank you for your continued service to our community.
