Bishop Castle The World's Largest One Man Project

Bishop Castle built by Jim Bishop started in 1969 and ongoing. Please respect this trust and honor while visiting!
(404)

Today's visitors to the Bishop Castle will find an impressively monumental statue in stone and iron that cries loud testament to the beauty and glory of not only Having a Dream, but Sticking with your Dream no matter what, and most importantly, that if you do believe in yourself and strive to maintain that belief, anything can happen! Three full stories of interior rooms complete with a Grand Ballroom, soaring towers and bridges with vistas of a hundred miles, and a Fire-Breathing Dragon make the Bishop Castle quite the unforgettable experience! Visitors are always welcome FREE of charge, and the castle itself is always OPEN. The drive to Bishop Castle will take you over 9,200 feet above sea level along the Frontier Pathways Scenic and Historic Byway. The easiest way to get to Bishop Castle is from I-25. Take exit #74 at Colorado City and head towards the mountains. (right off the exit ramp from the north and left off the exit ramp from the south) This puts you on Colorado state highway 165 and it's 24 miles without a turn to the Castle. You will see signs for the castle as you come upon it, and there's usually many cars out front. The Scenic Route, from Colorado Springs, is to take Hwy. 115 south to Florence, turn left at the first traffic light onto Hwy. 67, turn right onto Hwy 96 in Wetmore and at the next junction you will see signs for Bishop Castle. Turn left there onto Hwy. 165 and it's 12 miles. Bishop Castle can also be reached from the Salida area by heading east on Hwy. 50 to Texas Creek and turning right onto Hwy. 69 into Westcliffe. Turn left once in Westcliffe onto Hwy. 96 and travel until you see the Bishop Castle signs at the junction with Hwy. 165. Turn right and it's 12 miles.

📸 NEW SERIES: Colorado Photo Quest! 📸 Colorado is better when we explore it together...so here's your next photo mission!

Here's how Colorado Photo Quest works:

📍I'll post a Colorado location.

📷 If you've visited it, share YOUR photo of the same place in the comments.

🗓️ It can be from yesterday, 20 years ago, summer, winter...whenever. Your photo does not have to match my exact angle or spot.

🚗 Never been there? Add it to your Colorado adventure list and come back when you have!

The goal is simple: Let's see Colorado through hundreds of different lenses while discovering places worth exploring along the way.

COLORADO PHOTO QUEST #002

📍LOCATION: Bishop Castle (Rye, Colorado).

👇 YOUR MISSION: Share your photo of the location in the comments!

Bonus points for telling us when you took it or sharing a memory from your visit.

📸 Ready? Let's see your Colorado photo! I took this picture a couple weeks ago.

Edit:

We are working to have a new sticker printed from the handful of options we’ve received however it is a holiday weekend and we will need to come up with the $ to cover printing prior to picking them up.
Thank you all for all your comments and support!

Bishop Castle was not allowed to have any tourism the entire month of July, it is the biggest tourist month. I suggested we make these stickers to try and help recoup the loss. I chose the quickest and easy way to do it and here we are. We do not have the time or money to hire someone to make what AI did in a second.
If anyone would like to design it and send it to us we will start using it instead, until then this is what we have.
Please understand that if Jim Bishop was still alive we would have had him make a drawing but he’s not so once again, here we are!
