TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Gooch Street

The week of Oct. 5, 2026, S**o Public Works crews will pave Gooch Street, which leads to the S**o Transportation Center. Paving is expected to take one day, and the road will be down to one lane of flagged, alternating traffic while work is underway.

This schedule is weather dependent and subject to change. Community members who plan to use the bus or train at the S**o Transportation Center next week should plan for potential delays that may be caused by paving.

Thanks for your patience as the paving season nears a close for 2026.

We’re excited to announce that the Cities of Biddeford and S**o have been selected to join the Housing Solutions Lab at the NYU Furman Center’s 2026 Homeless Response Peer Network!

Alongside six other jurisdictions across the nation, our local team will participate in monthly peer-led sessions from September 2026 through February 2027. Together with national experts, we’ll work to assess our local systems, identify operational gaps, and build stronger cross-system partnerships to enhance our housing response capacity.

As homelessness challenges grow nationwide, we are committed to turning complex regional issues into actionable, high-impact strategies for our residents.

The Front Street Boat Launch has closed for the season as construction continues at S**o’s wastewater treatment plant. These resiliency upgrades, approved by voters through a bond question in 2021, include raising the area around the boat launch and treatment plant to mitigate potential flooding.

Later this month, S**o Public Works will remove the docks and secure the ramp until the spring, when boat launch infrastructure will be reinstalled for the 2027 season.

Public access to the lower section of the S**o River remains open through the Camp Ellis Boat Launch until its seasonal closure in early November, or through the Marblehead Boat Launch in Biddeford.

Wastewater treatment plant upgrades remain on schedule for completion next year.

UPDATE (10/2/26)
Surface paving on Beach Street has been pushed back to Tuesday, Oct. 6, due to contractor equipment delays and recent wet weather.

ORIGINAL POST
Final surface paving is scheduled to begin on Beach Street between Middle Street and Old Orchard Road on Wednesday, Sept. 23. School families and commuters should expect delays as our contractor makes the final push toward completion.

We’ve appreciated the community’s flexibility and patience as the start of the school year aligned with this paving project. After surface paving, the contractor will pave in driveways, paint traffic lines, clean up, and demobilize.

While this schedule is subject to change, we expect the project to be complete the week of Oct. 5 and will continue to work with the contractor to expedite this process whenever possible.
