The AAFA-sponsored bill in California (SB 1347) that allows preschools and child care centers to stock albuterol inhalers was signed into law by Governor Newsom! This legislation will improve student health, support academic success, and reduce costs for California families and our health care system.

Thank you to Senator Niello for sponsoring this bill, and for your continued leadership on legislation impacting the asthma and allergy community in California.

This comes just after Gov. Newsom’s announcement that CA will provide free emergency albuterol inhalers and spacers to public and charter K-12 schools across the state.

California has officially established an FTD registry! 🎉

Governor Gavin Newsom has signed SB 1047 into law, adding frontotemporal degeneration to the California Neurodegenerative Disease Registry. The new registry will help document FTD diagnoses and provide critical data to inform research, healthcare, and public health efforts.

September 28 - October 4 is World frontotemporal degeneration (FTD) Awareness Week.

When Senate Bill 1047 becomes law in California, data collection for FTD represents far more than just policy. It is a lifeline in our relentless fight to improve the lives of families living with this devastating disease.

I am grateful for the devotion of our legislators, advocates, and selfless caregivers who brought the bill this close to the finish line, and I urge Governor Newsom to sign this critical bill into law.

In honor of the International Week of the Deaf, I want to highlight Senator Caroline Menjivar’s Senate Bill 331 that I proudly co-authored. When it gets signed, the “Let California Kids Hear Act” will ensure that kids who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing have access to cochlear implants or hearing aids, no matter what type of insurance their parents have.

I am proud to stand with a bipartisan group of colleagues in support of adding coverage for kids' hearing aids to health plans.
