I am thrilled to welcome the passionate students and AVID supporters to the State Capitol. AVID is a powerful tool for ensuring that students develop the skills and beliefs they need to excel in a rapidly evolving world, and I am encouraged to see so many students who are interested in sharing AVID’s impact with legislators.

It was wonderful meeting with the Shalom School students and faculty, and I was grateful for the opportunity to present a resolution to Jewish Federation Sacramento and Shalom School in honor of Jewish American Heritage Month last month. These intelligent students had great questions for me, and we talked about the importance of having good mentors and following their dreams. I told these young leaders to follow the great advice from Winston Churchill, “Never, never, never give up!”

When your budget has nearly doubled in less than a decade, but families are struggling to afford housing, gas, groceries, and healthcare, the state’s accounting system is clearly broken.

This budget relies on new taxes and borrowing and asks working families to pay even more for government programs that continue to fall short.

Emma Heming Willis: Why California must track frontotemporal dementia 06/09/2026

I am thankful for Emma’s fierce advocacy and for her inspiring op-ed about the journey her family has gone through with her husband, Bruce Willis’, frontotemporal degeneration.

Too many California families feel like they’re fighting this disease in the dark. Expanding this registry is a chance to bring light into that darkness. It will help us gather the data we desperately need while giving a voice and hope to those enduring one of the most devastating diagnoses a family can face.

Emma Heming Willis: Why California must track frontotemporal dementia When my husband, Bruce Willis, was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD), our family was thrust into a world we were totally unprepared to navigate.

On this National Cancer Survivors Day, we’re honoring the journey of every cancer survivor.

Chances are that you know someone who has survived cancer. In the United States alone, 1 in 3 people will be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetime.

Cancer survivors deserve to thrive after cancer, not just survive it. I introduced legislation (Senate Bill 1002) to allow patients that qualify for out-of-state telehealth care access to continue telehealth visits with their out-of-state provider after their eligibility ends.

Join millions of cancer survivors and supporters around the world as we celebrate life and raise awareness of the challenges of cancer survivorship.
