SMP cadets make better Second Lieutenants because they are given the chance to gain experience working with Soldiers, NCOs, and other officers prior to beginning their assignments as Lieutenants. They get to shadow Platoon Leaders on drill weekends, see how a unit operates, and get familiar with how things work from Chain of Command to unit operations and training.
