Juneteenth reminds us that freedom in this country has always been delayed, negotiated, and fought for. I support ACR 214 because acknowledging history is not symbolic work, it is necessary work. We cannot tell the truth about emancipation without also telling the truth about what still remains unfinished.

On the UN International Day for Countering Hate Speech, I reaffirm a simple truth: hate grows when it goes unchallenged. That is why I authored AB 1578, because protecting our communities means addressing bias, discrimination, and division before they cause harm. Creating a more just and inclusive society requires more than awareness. It requires action.

Proud to author an ACR to invite California into a sister-state relationship with Gauteng, South Africa, a global center of innovation, labor, and economic power!

At a time when borders harden, this resolution affirms something simpler and more urgent: that California’s future is tied to the world, and to the shared work of building economies rooted in equity, education, and dignity!

In the face of unprecedented fiscal uncertainty, federal threats to critical safety-net programs, and calls to balance the budget on the backs of our most vulnerable residents, California chose a different path.

The final budget is not perfect, but it reflects a commitment to protecting the people who need us most!

ACA 7 acknowledges what many have long understood: equality is not achieved by pretending race and discrimination no longer exist. For too long, many cultures and communities have been overlooked or erased. By embracing the richness of California’s diversity, we move closer to a future where every person is seen, valued, and represented!
