Workforce Wednesday

While living at R Angels Transitional Housing, Sergio was referred to the Visalia Employment Connection for career services to help him achieve greater independence. Determined to build a more stable future, Sergio's goal was to secure full-time employment so he could work toward permanent housing and long-term self-sufficiency.

Although Sergio brought valuable experience in the skilled trades, including electrical work and machine operation, he faced challenges that made it more difficult to find employment. Working with Career Coach Jacob, he participated in career exploration and job readiness workshops and attended Job Connect events.

He also completed the ECO Program. Through hands-on training with the City of Visalia, Sergio strengthened his workplace skills, demonstrating the professionalism and reliability employers value. The Employment Connection team also provided supportive services, including work clothing, housing referrals, and ongoing employment guidance to help him stay focused on his goals.

Sergio's dedication led to a full-time position as a Pool Technician. Securing employment marked an important step toward achieving the stability he envisioned, allowing him to save for permanent housing while continuing to work toward becoming a homeowner.

As Sergio encourages others, "Never give up, even if you get turned down; keep going."
