We ask President Trump to retract his remarks, and we urge leaders across our nation to make clear that every person’s life in America has value. The Central Coast is unified with Los Angeles and San Diego, and all who know that, as Commander in Chief of the United States of America, the President’s highest duty is to protect our nation.

I am absolutely disgusted by the allegations of sexual assault at Cornell University. As an educator for decades and a legislator who has focused on uplifting survivors, I am deeply saddened by the failure of our institutions to protect and believe survivors, and to understand the difficulty in processing trauma and coming forward. To Jane Doe: the system failed you and you deserve justice. To the people who protected and encouraged this abuse and abuse like it: I am resolute in doing everything I can to put a stop to the sick and despicable harm you cause. I am grateful to Governor Hochul’s and Attorney General Leticia James’ swift action and hope there will be true accountability.

This week, I joined the Big Sur Multi-Agency Advisory Council (BSMAAC) for an important conversation about the Timber and Plaskett fires.

These meetings bring together community leaders and partners from local, county, state, and federal government, giving Big Sur residents a direct opportunity to ask questions, share concerns, and hear from the agencies working on the ground.

Big Sur has faced a challenging fire season, and this kind of coordination matters. With El Niño around the corner, I’m grateful to everyone who continues to show up for this community.
