I don’t know who at the shelter summoned an 82-pound familiar, but she has arrived and her name is Lovegood. 🔮🖤

This is Lovegood (A926606), a 3-year-old, 82-pound Cane Corso/Pit Bull mix, and I’m sorry but LOOK AT HER.

She has been waiting at Bradshaw since August 19, which means spooky season has officially arrived and somehow this magnificent creature STILL does not have a home.

So naturally, I have questions for the universe.

Did someone forget to light the adoption candle? Do I need to drive to the nearest metaphysical store on my lunch break? Is there an Etsy witch who specializes specifically in finding homes for extremely beautiful shelter dogs? Please send me your rates.

Because Lovegood is basically what would happen if someone asked the universe for a dog who looks intimidating enough to guard an enchanted forest but is actually a sweet girl who enjoys affection and walks nicely on leash.

She’s also three, which means we have moved beyond some of the puppy nonsense. Lovegood is looking for the finer things: a soft place to sleep, someone to love, leisurely walks and preferably a household where nobody expects her to attend networking events at the dog park.

She’s met social dogs in our playgroups and did fine, but she hasn’t been ready to play yet. She may enjoy a compatible canine friend with slow introductions, or she may decide being your one-and-only familiar is exactly the life she ordered. If you have a dog at home, bring them in for a meet-and-greet and we can see if there’s any magic. ✨

Kennel life is starting to wear on this girl, and after waiting since August, I would really love to see her get the chance to decompress and finally exhale in a home of her own.

So I’m putting this into the universe: Lovegood is getting adopted this spooky season.

ADOPTION UPDATE: Argus and Cyclops have new names, a new family and apparently a new full-time job causing chaos. 😂❤️

You might remember our bonded, one-eyed gray babies Argus and Cyclops. They came to Bradshaw with serious eye injuries, both needed an eye removed, recovered side by side and had one very important requirement when it came time for adoption: they needed to go home together.

And THEY DID. 🥹

Their adopter just sent us an update, and Argus and Cyclops are now officially Peregrine Took and Meriadoc Brandybuck — or, as their family more accurately described them, “two little puddles of chaos.”

They’ve settled into their new home quite nicely alongside their two older brothers, Samwise and Mr. Frodo, who are apparently still adjusting to the fact that two tiny agents of chaos have moved into their house.

So yes. Their adopter has assembled an entire feline Fellowship of the Ring.

And Pippin and Merry for two bonded kittens who do everything together??? NO NOTES. Perfect names. 😂

These two went through a lot before finding their family, but they had each other through all of it. Now they get to grow up together with a home, a family, two older brothers and what I can only assume will be years of extremely questionable decisions made as a team.

From Argus and Cyclops to Pippin and Merry. Look at them now. ❤️

And if you’re reading this thinking, “Well great, now I want two cats…”

PERFECT TIMING.

SENIOR SUNDAY, and I’m looking at Boone, Drew, Aldo, Rocko and Jake and I have questions. Mainly: where are the senior citizens??? 😂

These gentlemen have reached the stage of life where we can skip some of the puppy nonsense. They’ve had some life experience. They’ve developed opinions. They know what they like. And based on these photos, what they like is apparently looking VERY handsome while waiting for someone to realize an older dog might be exactly what their house is missing.

Boone is serving distinguished gentleman. Drew looks like he just heard you say “walk.” Aldo has ears that could pick up satellite radio. Rocko has the kind of smile that makes you immediately start talking to him in a voice you would deny using if anyone asked. And Jake looks like he has a 401(k), a preferred bedtime and absolutely no interest in whatever nonsense the younger dogs are doing.
This is my weekly reminder that senior dogs are SO GOOD. ❤️

Maybe you don’t need the puppy stage. Maybe what you actually want is a dog who’s a little older, a little wiser and very ready to spend their next chapter being ridiculously loved.

So for Senior Sunday, please enjoy these five extremely handsome reminders that there is no age limit on becoming someone’s new best friend.

Do you have a very specific cat in your head? Because this might be the best possible time to be picky. 😂

We currently have more than 100 cats and kittens available for adoption at Bradshaw. Yes. ONE HUNDRED.

Dreaming of a tiny black kitten with big bright eyes? We should talk.

Calico kitten? Yep.

Classic tabby? Obviously.

Orange kitten? Also yes, but I do need to ask whether you’ve emotionally prepared yourself for the orange-cat lifestyle. Godspeed.

Black and white? Fluffy? Tiny? Grown-up? One who looks like they might spend three hours cuddling with you and then knock your water off the nightstand while maintaining eye contact?

We have OPTIONS.

Aimee has been at Bradshaw for a little over a week, and I’m starting to think she’s treating this place like an Airbnb she did not personally book.

She’ll participate, but there are boundaries.

Go for a walk? Absolutely. Aimee is an easy walker and loves taking her time to sniff around.

Sit for a treat? She heard you. She has declined.

Play with a toy? Thank you for the offer.

Stand under a running faucet and let the cold water hit her because she’s a Husky living in Sacramento? FINALLY, someone understands her. 😂

This is Aimee (A928755), a 5-year-old, 60-pound Siberian Husky who seems less interested in performing for us and much more interested in simply hanging out. She enjoys affection, likes exploring on walks and went potty several times while she was out, so she may have some previous potty-training experience.

She’s also been introduced to social dogs here at Bradshaw and did just fine. She wasn’t ready to jump into playing yet, and that’s okay. Not everyone walks into a room of strangers and immediately starts making friends. We’ll continue giving her opportunities in playgroup to get comfortable and show us more of who she is.
And I kind of love that about her.

Aimee isn’t desperately trying to sell herself to you. She’s just quietly existing, enjoying some pets, sniffing her way through life and waiting for someone to take the time to get to know her.

Maybe that person is you. ❤️

Annette, look away. This post is not for you.

Because I may have spent a little extra time in the cat enclosures yesterday, and before anyone starts asking questions about productivity, I would like to point out that I don’t take smoke breaks. I take cat breaks.

Girl math says that’s basically the same thing??? Possibly even a wellness initiative??? I don’t make the rules.

Anyway, the reason for my extended “break” was Campbell (A927312), and unfortunately I am obsessed with her.

She’s just over a year old, 8.8 pounds and the kind of cat who makes it VERY difficult to remember that you already have cats at home and cannot simply take home every animal you develop feelings for at work.

Campbell is outgoing, social and ridiculously sweet. But here’s where the workplace conditions become completely unreasonable:

When you leave her habitat, she starts scratching her little paws against the glass door trying to get you to come back.

EXCUSE ME???

How am I supposed to return to my desk after that? I take three steps away, hear the little scratch scratch scratch behind me and suddenly I’m turning around like, “Campbell, I have a JOB.”

She does not care.

HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO WORK IN THESE CONDITIONS?

Campbell came to us with some hair loss that we believe is related to flea allergies, so her future family will need to keep her indoors and stay consistent with monthly topical flea prevention to help keep her comfortable and less itchy.

Other than that, her primary issue appears to be that she would like your attention and she would like it NOW.

I went in for a quick visit. Campbell said absolutely not. I tried to leave. Scratch scratch scratch.

And suddenly I’m thinking, Well, emails will still exist in 15 minutes.
Again: girl math.

Campbell has been waiting since August 30, and for the sake of both Campbell AND my productivity, I need one of you to come adopt this cat.

Please.

I have work to do. 😭

🚨 FINAL PLEA: THREE dogs urgently need placement by Wednesday, October 7 at 5 p.m. 🚨

Shelters are meant to be temporary. Even with walks, enrichment, playgroups and lots of love, long stays can take a toll. Final Plea gives dogs who are struggling in the shelter an extra push to find the placement they need to decompress and thrive.

NEVILLE (A925504) is a 2-year-old Pittie who arrived fearful and unsure. After nearly two months, kennel stress is getting the best of him. He’s barking, jumping and grabbing at leashes and clothing when overwhelmed. Outside of that stress, we see a goofy boy who loves toys, enjoys his people and may be able to coexist with a calm female dog. Neville needs structure, patience and somewhere quiet enough to finally exhale.

SALLY SUE (A927714) is an 8-year-old Cattle Dog mix who takes a little time to trust—but once you’re in, you’re IN. We’re talking kisses, belly rubs and climbing into your lap. Sally was adopted and returned after not getting along with the resident dog, and she’s made it clear she wants to be your one and only. She’s also currently being treated for a doggie cold and would much rather recover somewhere peaceful.

GENDO (A925610) is a 4-year-old German Shepherd mix who can initially be reserved but becomes affectionate once he trusts you. He was briefly adopted and returned after a bad experience with a cat, and his adopters also noted a strong prey drive toward small animals. No cats or small animals for Gendo. He did well with their senior female dog and may be crate trained. Give him time and you’ll discover a boy who gives kisses, asks for belly rubs and loves being close to his people.
