I would like to remind everyone that California Adopt-a-Pet Day is this Saturday and somewhere in this shelter is the dog that's about to completely change your life.

May I present Thor.

Thor is a 1-year-old Husky whose hobbies include:

🏃 Running at unnecessary speeds
🌪️ Creating his own weather system via zoomies
🐾 Turning every outing into an adventure

He's smart, athletic, hilarious, and has never once considered having a low-key day.

Basically, if your dream dog is equal parts best friend, hiking buddy, and lovable menace, Thor would like to submit his application.

Last year, more than 90 animals found homes in one day.

Let's do it again. 🐾

Breaking News: We need your old news. 📰🐾

If you've finished reading yours, our dogs and cats would love a copy. Newspapers help keep kennels clean and comfortable, and we go through a LOT of them.

🚨 FINAL PLEA – ADOPTION OR RESCUE COMMITMENT NEEDED BY 6/3/26 @ 5PM 🚨
Shelters are not ideal environments for dogs to thrive long-term. Constant stress causes mental health decline, dogs become reactive or shut down, and medical issues worsen. We are deeply committed to transparency about each dog's needs and doing what's best for their quality of life, even when difficult.

Final Plea gives visibility to dogs whose well-being is declining in our care and who urgently need the structured, calm environments only rescue placement can provide. This is our advocacy effort to save lives by connecting dogs with the specialized support they need. It's our last effort to get them help NOW.

LADY (A899942) – 1 yr Anatolian/Pittie mix ⭐AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION OR RESCUE⭐
Stunning girl with heart as big as her paws! All about people—lights up with human attention, thrives bonding. Affectionate, social, full of pep. Brings energy and joy everywhere. Best as only dog. Prefers not sharing space with other dogs (common in livestock guardian breeds). Ideal home soaks up all love without competition.

MEDICAL: Heartworm positive. THE SHELTER WILL COVER HER HEARTWORM TREATMENT for any adopter! With proper care, rest, stable environment, has every chance to recover beautifully!

Ready for adoption or rescue giving focused care, comfort, consistency. So much life ahead!

All current on vaccines. We help with transport!

ADOPTION UPDATE 🌊❤️

Another shelter pet has completely won at life.

After recovering from kennel cough, this sweet girl took her first trip to the beach and, according to her adopter, had an absolute blast.

Honestly, imagine going from a shelter kennel to feeling the ocean breeze on your face and spending the day with your family.

That's the whole point.

Her adopter says she's a total lovebug and that they feel lucky she joined their family.

And that's the thing about shelter pets.

One day they're waiting.

The next they're exactly where they were always meant to be.

Which brings me to an important reminder...

📅 California Adopt-a-Pet Day is this Saturday, June 6.

Last year, more than 90 animals found homes at Bradshaw in a single day.

Ninety.

This year, we're hoping to help even more animals trade kennel life for beach trips, couch privileges, family group chats, and the kind of love every pet deserves.

So if you've been thinking about adopting, this might just be your sign.

We'll be here. The animals will be here.

And someone's future best friend is waiting. 🐾❤️

I regret to inform you that kitten season has arrived.

And she did not come quietly.

Every year, thousands of tiny orange criminals, dramatic torties, suspiciously judgmental tabbies, and kittens that look like they were assembled five minutes ago begin appearing across the community.

Which means Bradshaw is currently experiencing what scientists refer to as:

✨ a lot of cats ✨

The good news?

This weekend is basically the Super Bowl for cat people.

Then on Sunday…

🐱 All Cats Are Beautiful, Cat Tour
📍 Bradshaw Animal Shelter
🕛 Noon–1 PM

We’ll be the final stop on a Sacramento-wide cat tour celebrating some of the incredible felines looking for homes throughout our community.

So if you’ve been thinking about adopting a cat…

If you’ve been considering adopting two cats…

If you’ve accidentally become emotionally attached to every kitten video on your feed…

I fear this may be your sign.

We’ll have the cats.

You bring the questionable self-control.

See you this weekend. 🐾💕

I'm not saying California Adopt-a-Pet Day changes lives... but last year more than 90 animals walked into Bradshaw homeless and went to sleep in their own homes that night.

Adopt-a-Pet Day is THIS SATURDAY.

Last year, more than 90 animals found homes at Bradshaw in a single day.

Which means there are dozens of people walking around Sacramento right now who innocently said, "We're just going to look."

And then left with a dog.

As unverse intended.

This year, we're aiming even higher.

Which brings me to a man named Phantom Opera.

You hear "Phantom Opera" and expect some mysterious artistic genius lurking in the shadows. Instead, you get a 78-pound beefy goofball with satellite dish ears and the attention span of a golden retriever who just had an espresso.

This man has hobbies.

His hobbies include:
🎾 chasing balls
🌿 investigating bushes
💦 splashing in pools
🚗 riding in cars
🌎 generally being thrilled to be alive

And while Phantom is having the time of his life on adventures, shelter life is starting to wear on him. What he really needs is someone who appreciates a dog with a big personality, a bigger heart, and enough enthusiasm to make a trip to the mailbox feel like an expedition to uncharted territory.

So this Saturday, come celebrate California Adopt-a-Pet Day with us.

Maybe you'll leave with Phantom. Maybe you'll leave with another shelter pet.

But statistically speaking, somebody reading this is about to make a life-changing decision.

🐾⛳ THANK YOU, PUP CUP 2026! ⛳🐾

What an incredible day at Mojo's 2nd Annual Pup Cup at William Land Golf Course!

This event is about more than golf—it's about the shelter pet who changed everything. After losing their father, Scott and Cristin brought their mom, Judy, to Bradshaw Animal Shelter to find a companion. A dog named Lizzy had other plans. She jumped right into Judy's lap, chose her family, and inspired a legacy of helping shelter pets find the same kind of love.

Thank you to everyone who played, sponsored, donated, volunteered, and supported this event. Your generosity helps provide care, medical treatment, enrichment, and second chances for animals waiting for homes.

A special thank you to MoJo’s Local • Tap & Kitchen, all the incredible sponsors, volunteers, and the generous donor who matched funds raised dollar-for-dollar.

Because of you, more shelter pets will get the chance to write their own happy endings. ❤️🐾

Guys...

Last year, more than 90 animals found homes in a single day during California Adopt-a-Pet Day.

Ninety.

Which means there are at least 90 people out there who said:

"We're just going to look."

And then immediately folded.

As they should.

This year, we're hoping to beat that number on June 6, and I'd like to introduce one very compelling reason why.

Meet Etta. 🩶

Now before we begin, let's address the elephant in the room. Etta has been adopted and returned three separate times. Before everyone gets sad, let's review the facts:

Return #1: toddler and dog situation.
Return #2: adopter allergies.
Return #3: didn't get along with the resident cat.

Notice what none of those reasons have in common?

Etta.

Because Etta is actually delightful.

She's social. Confident. Loves attention. Fully believes she should be the main character of your household and honestly? I support women's rights and women's wrongs.

She doesn't want to share the spotlight with other pets. She doesn't want toddler energy. She wants a calm home where she can thrive and receive the celebrity treatment she clearly expects.

And after three returns that had nothing to do with her personality, I would really love for this girl to finally get the happy ending she deserves.

So on June 6, come celebrate California Adopt-a-Pet Day with us.

Maybe you'll leave with Etta.

Maybe you'll leave with another animal.

But if history tells us anything, somebody reading this is absolutely about to make a life-changing decision.

Guys, I have a question.

At what age are we officially supposed to slow down?

Because apparently nobody told Bud.

On paper, he's 8 years old.

In reality? This man is out here keeping up with younger dogs in playgroups, making friends, trotting around the yard, and acting like "senior" is simply a state of mind.

Honestly, I respect the commitment.

Bud has reached that elite stage of life where he's kept all the fun parts and ditched the nonsense.

The zoomies? Still there.

The social life? Thriving.

The confidence? Through the roof.

The urge to destroy your house because you left for 17 minutes? Thankfully behind him.

Growth. Maturity. Wisdom.

And if you're looking for your next best friend, I have excellent news:

📅 California Adopt-a-Pet Day is June 6

Last year, more than 90 animals found homes at Bradshaw in a single day.

This year? We're aiming higher.

Which means somewhere out there is a family that's about to say, "We're just looking," and then leave with Bud riding shotgun.

As they should.

He's not looking for retirement. He's looking for his next adventure, his next couch, and his next person.

And honestly? I think they're looking for him too.

Bud (A746655) ❤️🐾
