๐Ÿ”ฅ Important Update: Seasonal fire restrictions are now in effect for BLM-managed public lands in the Ukiah Field Office, covering Colusa, Glen, Lake, Marin, Mendocino, Napa, Solano, Sonoma, and Yolo counties. These restrictions are in place due to dry conditions and high wildland fire danger.
Restrictions include no campfires or open flames of any kind, no smoking except in enclosed vehicles or buildings, and no motorized vehicles off designated roads or trails. As always, fireworks are prohibited on all BLM lands.
Help us prevent human-caused wildfires โ€” 95% of California wildfires are caused by people. Please plan ahead, use caution, and recreate responsibly.

June is Great Outdoors Month โ€” and there's no better place to celebrate than California's public lands. ๐ŸŒ„

Forests, deserts, rivers, rangeland, and coastline โ€” BLM California manages over 15 million acres of incredibly diverse public land, and it's all yours to explore.

As you get out there this month, keep these principles in mind:

๐Ÿ”ฅ Check current fire and closure info at https://ow.ly/fxVV50Z6ify before you go.
๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ Plan ahead and prepare โ€” know the regulations for the area you're visiting.
๐Ÿšฎ Pack it in, pack it out โ€” leave the land better than you found it.
๐ŸŒฟ Stay on designated trails and campsites to protect sensitive soils and plants.
๐Ÿ”‡ Respect wildlife and other visitors โ€” keep noise and impacts low.

Tag us in your adventures this June and show us how you're enjoying your public lands!

๐Ÿ“ Hiking the Lost Coast? Know before you go โ€”
Poison oak is a common sight along the Lost Coast, and it's found throughout the King Range and surrounding trails. While it plays a valuable role in the local ecosystem โ€” providing berries for birds and shelter for wildlife โ€” it can cause an itchy skin rash in people who come into contact with its oily resin, urushiol. (Even some of our own rangers aren't immune!)

Here's what to know before you hit the trail:
๐ŸŒฟ Learn its look. Poison oak changes with the seasons โ€” lush green leaves in spring and summer, red and orange in fall, bare woody stems in winter. Familiarize yourself with all its stages before you head out.

๐Ÿงด Be prepared. Carrying a skin cleanser or washing thoroughly with soap and water soon after exposure can help remove the oils from skin, clothing, shoes, and gear.

๐Ÿฅ Reacted to it? Mild rashes can often be soothed with cool water rinses or clay-based products to help dry blisters. For more severe reactions, consult your doctor.

A little awareness goes a long way on the trail. With some preparation, you can explore the Lost Coast confidently and safely.
