Some days you feel the weight of a story being written and sometimes, rewritten. Last Thursday was one of those days.

We gathered on a piece of Sacramento ground that carries a painful past, and we stood there with hope as we broke ground on something new coming to Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. We were so honored to be joined by people who have given their lives to fighting for the vulnerable.

We were joined by Flossy Crump, Sacramento’s first female police officer who became a homocide detective and helped solve the Morris Solomon Jr. case.

Assemblywoman Maggy Krell, whose extraordinary career fighting trafficking, including her role in helping shut down one of the world’s most dangerous online platforms, has made her a national voice for exploited children, stood with us.

We are deeply grateful to Senator Angelique Ashby, whose advocacy has been instrumental in turning this vision from a dream into a project now under construction.

And we are grateful to Council Member caity maple whose support for this community has meant so much.

World of Wonder is officially underway and we could not be more honored to see a home of belonging and a space for community being built here.

Want to help build with us? Comment WONDER and we’ll send you everything you need to become a partner.

Behind every number is a neighbor to love and a story worth telling.

In 2025, through community events, shared meals, and simple acts like clean laundry, we had the privilege of showing up for our unhoused neighbors with consistency and care.
This is what it looks like to restore lives, return dignity and rebuild community.

And none of it happens alone.

If you believe dignity should never be a luxury, we invite you to become a monthly City of Refuge partner. Your generosity turns compassion into consistency.

Join us via the link in our bio.

“I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.“ — Martin Luther King Jr.

Love is not passive. It’s daily commitment to justice, dignity, and service. This Valentine’s Day, we’re choosing the kind of love that rebuilds, restores and stands with our neighbors.

At City of Refuge, we’re sticking with love. ❤️

Last week, we hosted our Galentine’s Sisterhood PJ Party. 💗
There is something powerful about women gathering with intention.

It was a night that showed the power of gathering and the joy of living life in community. These are the moments that remind us what it looks like to rebuild, together.

Thank you to every woman who showed up, leaned in, and made the night so special. ❤️
