We know that health is about more than what happens in a medical or counseling office. Our health is shaped by the communities we live in, the resources we can access, and the decisions that affect our everyday lives.

Civic engagement is part of community care.

Decisions about healthcare access, housing, education, transportation, and community resources all have an impact on our collective health and well-being.

As a community-rooted organization, we believe in the power of being informed, staying connected, and participating in the decisions that shape our communities.

If you are eligible to vote, voting is one way to participate. So is learning about issues, sharing resources, having conversations, and holding decision-makers accountable.

For African-centered, Black, and culturally responsive mental health professionals, addressing colorism is part of understanding the historical and contemporary forces that shape how our clients experience beauty, gender, desirability, safety, visibility, and belonging.

Designed for psychologists and other mental health professionals, this training examines colorism as a historical and racialized system and explores its intersections with gender identity, gender expression, sexuality, and psychological well-being.

Participants will consider how racialized constructions of femininity, masculinity, beauty, desirability, aggression, softness, and safety can influence identity, relationships, belonging, and what happens within the therapeutic relationship itself.

Together, we’ll strengthen our ability to recognize colorism in clinical spaces and apply culturally responsive practices when working with Two-Spirit, transgender, non-binary, and gender-expansive clients. Because culturally grounded care asks us to see the whole person and to understand the histories, systems, and communities that shape how we come to know ourselves and one another.

🎉 ADVOCACY WINS! AB 1876 SIGNED INTO LAW! 🏳️‍⚧️✊🏽

On September 30, 2026, Governor Gavin Newsom signed AB 1876, the Fair Care for All Act, into law, strengthening California’s protections against discrimination in healthcare coverage!

The Gender Health Center was proud to participate in advocacy efforts as part of the TGI Advocacy Coalition, led by The TransLatina Coalition, alongside community advocates and partners working to protect equitable access to healthcare.

What does AB 1876 do?

🏳️‍⚧️ Protects against discrimination in healthcare coverage based on gender identity, sexual orientation, intersex traits, race, disability, age, and other protected characteristics.

💜 Prohibits discriminatory coverage exclusions and limitations, including categorical exclusions targeting gender-affirming care.

⚖️ Strengthens protections in California law, helping safeguard access to healthcare even as federal protections face uncertainty.

We celebrate The TransLatin@ Coalition’s leadership, Assemblymember Dawn Addis and colleagues and the many advocates who organized, testified, and raised their voices to make this victory possible.

At GHC, we know that healthcare is more than a service. It is a matter of dignity, self-determination, and justice. Advocacy is an essential part of community care, and we remain committed to building a future where everyone can access the care they need without discrimination.

Join Haus of Hormones for our closing event in honor of Trans Day of Remembrance! We’re bringing our community together for 🏳️‍⚧️Noche de Joteria🏳️‍⚧️ a market rooted in joy, care, connection, and celebration because our trans community deserves to receive our flowers while we’re still here to receive them.💐

We’ll have a community altar where we invite you to bring a photo or letter to honor, remember, and celebrate the lives of those we’ve lost. Alongside this space for remembrance, we’ll be offering a variety of gender-affirming services, resources, and community care, including:
✨️ Haircuts and makeup
✨️ Free clothing and gender-affirming items
✨️ Legal name and gender marker change support
✨️ And so much more!

Today marks National Latinx AIDS Awareness Day and we uplift the importance of informed Latinx Trans and Q***r communities and our allies. We have always looked out for each other and HIV care is part of that community care that we need.

Sometimes care looks like a free HIV and STI testing, free sexual health supplies, and/or a supportive place that will listen to us. Find all these community centered services at the Gender Health Center.

🏡 What if we talked about inviting in instead of coming out?

On National Coming Out Day, we’re honoring something that can get lost in the celebration: you get to decide who has access to your story.

“Coming out” can sometimes feel like an expectation that LGBTQ+ people should disclose who we are to be fully seen, proud, or authentic. We prefer to think about inviting people in.

Inviting in centers choice. It means sharing parts of yourself with people you trust, when it feels right for you. It recognizes that privacy can be protective, boundaries can be loving, and disclosure is never something you owe anyone.

Some of us invite people in loudly. Some quietly. Some selectively. Some not at all. And our identities and experiences are no less beautiful, real, or worthy because of it.

This National Coming Out Day, we celebrate your right to choose who gets invited in. 💛

National Depression Screening Day is an invitation to check in with ourselves and each other.

Our mental health is shaped by more than what happens inside of us. Racism, trans-antagonism, financial stress, isolation, discrimination, and simply carrying a lot can affect how we feel and move through the world.

A mental health screening isn’t a diagnosis. It’s one tool for noticing what you’ve been carrying and whether some additional care or support might be helpful.
