The Legislature has acted. Now it is Governor Newsom’s turn. 👏🏽

Lawmakers put forward a budget agreement that delays harmful cuts and prevents immediate harm to Californians, including delays in cuts to dental care and removing humanitarian immigrant groups from full scope Medi-Cal.

The budget plan also creates pathways to generate new revenue to support healthcare investments and protect California’s safety net.

These delays immediately protect many Californians, but the fight is not over. The Medi-Cal freeze continues to threaten access and roll back more than a decade of progress toward Health for All.

Governor Gavin Newsom, it is your time to act. Sign AB 109, protect immigrant health, and defend your legacy as a leader on healthcare access.

Last week, we attended the Hispanics in Philanthropy Conference (HIPConference) in Los Angeles and joined AltaMed Health Services for their Charla, “What Now? Healthcare Access and Equity at a Crossroads,” highlighting policy changes impacting immigrant health in California.

It was inspiring to meet so many people helping power Latino changemakers across the country. We look forward to continuing to build relationships, strengthen our collective power, and advance Latine health equity throughout California and beyond.

Now, the Assembly must act. California cannot balance its budget on the backs of immigrant families or stay silent while communities risk losing life-saving care. As budget negotiations continue, we urge Assembly leaders to join the Senate in advancing real solutions to protect Medi-Cal access and stop the freeze.

California should lead on health equity, not retreat from its promises.
