Today is National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, and we want to take a moment to say thank you to the incredible officers and professional staff of the Sacramento Police Department ๐Ÿ’™

Law enforcement is not an easy path. Itโ€™s a career built on long hours, difficult decisions, and a deep commitment to serving others. Every day, SPD shows up for Sacramento protecting our neighborhoods, responding in moments of crisis, and working to keep our community safe.

The Sacramento Police Foundation is proud to support Sacramento Police Department and grateful for all they do for our city.

If you see an officer today, join us in saying thank you. ๐Ÿ’™

VSS International is a proud supporter of the Sacramento Police Activities League (SacPAL) whose mission it is to instill in our youth positive citizenship principles through quality educational, recreational and civic programs.

We want to thank the Program Director, Sergeant Luis Canela, for taking time out of his busy day to visit our West Sacramento office today to thank us. We also want to give recognition to VSS Project Manager Tyler Tapa (pictured on the left) for all of his volunteer time given to this organization coaching and mentoring Sacramentoโ€™s youth

Thank You Tyler! Job Well Done!

Through our PEDALS program, we were able to donate ten bicycles, helmets, and locks to Urban Strategies Inc. for their Ice Cream Social!

The Pedals program is run by the Sacramento Police Foundation (nonprofit) and was established in 2008. The mission is to provide purchased or donated bicycles, helmets, and safety gear to children and families within the City of Sacramento. The Pedals Program creates a positive atmosphere between police officers and the community by providing personal interaction in a learning and giving environment. The goal is to combat juvenile delinquency and improve self-esteem by using the bicycle as a vehicle to help improve the lives of inner-city youth while encouraging safe behaviors and preventing accidents. Children not only receive a new bicycle, but they also receive a helmet that is properly fitted, reflective gear, safety brochures, local area trail maps, and information on how to register their bicycle with the Police Department. Throughout the year, we host Bike Rodeos to teach the safety of bicycling to prevent accidents through education, awareness, and hands-on demonstrations, focusing on rail, driver, bike, and pedestrian safety.

Sacramento Police Department 's North Violent Crime Reduction Team officers were working a couple of events in Del Paso Heights when two youths caught their attention with some mischievous behavior. They took the opportunity to make a positive contact with them and explained what they were doing was not good. They also gave them some options on what they could do differently.

The kids were apologetic and not only listened to their advice but took it to heart. Their new friends were kind enough to put on an impromptu bike and scooter show. As they watched them do their tricks, they observed one of the kids was riding a bike with no brakes. He used his foot as a makeshift brake sticking it between the frame and the rear tire to slow the bike down. With the support of grants obtained by the Union Pacific Railroad through the Pedals Program and the SPD Outreach Team, they were able to give him a brand-new bike (with brakes), a new helmet, and a lock. Our new friend is a very appreciative little guy and now enjoying his hobby in a much safer way! Sacramento Police Department

Our Pedals program continues to help those in need in our community! This would not be possible without amazing grants from Union Pacific Railroad !

Recently, two SPD Patrol Officers came into contact with a 74-year-old community member who was the victim of a bike theft. After taking the theft report, the officers worked with our Outreach Unit to purchase a new bike for the victim! The Sacramento Police Department and itโ€™s officers will continue to be guardians in our community.
