Okay friends after a few trips to Yosemite already this year there are a few thoughts we would like to share with those of you who intend to go soon. All of which are very important for a successful exit.
Before you leave on a hike understand how important these tips are to stay safe in the mountains.
1. Make sure Someone/ anyone knows what your plan is, where you'll be hiking and where you will be exiting if the conditions are good. Think of it this way if you don't. All of your loved ones are gonna have to farantantly look for your dead or dying body for who knows how long if you are careless or deny that outcome as a possibility.
2. Water is very important and more so as the summer temps heat up. Fortunately because of the huge snow pack there are many areas of run off acceptable for filling. Know before you go if you need to pack up all your water or how you will fill up. Drink your water. Don't try to conserve solely to save weight. Your muscles will cramp and make for a stressful hike.
3. Know what the hike entails for the exit you are attempting. Half dome is between 6-8 miles one way and 4-5000 ft elevation gain and there is currently snow the last two miles to the top. Knowing this you should expect to take more time summiting and using muscles during snow travel you may have never used before so it's gonna be more exerting than it already is. Redefining the phrase "it's a walk in the park"
4. Eating high protein snacks on the way up is also important. For many reasons but most of all you don't want to be sitting at an exit point questioning jump conditions but have no food and no water to get yourself down therefor having already made poor decisions and forcing yourself into more poor choices on top of your mental and physical fatigue.
5. Definitely not the last or least but the note we will end on is. If your going anywhere for your first time to a backcountry exit point with a group of friends or aquatints. Do your own research on top of their beta. Know exactly where you are going, what you will be doing and what you will need for your excursion. Speak up. Your friends should know and be happy to share beta. Simple Example. If you forget a head lamp and start time is 1am. That's 5 hours in the dark 🤷🏼♂️ one that I personally had to learn the hard way my first year of para-alpinism, shed layers, don't be too lazy to stop and take your fleece off if you're sweating. I summited an hour and half before sunrise after sweating balls the whole way up so I froze/shivered in the dark as winds were howling for that hour n half until the sun broke.
honestly their could easily be a 300 pg. book written just on understanding the basics and why the basics are important but nonetheless I hope these few thoughts help as this amazing season kicks off.
Thank you for being our friends!
Ps please feel free to ask us questions. Even if you are sitting on an exit point. We will not scold you. We will assist and inform you to the best of our abilities. We are barely skydivers. 😉

As a club we have many exciting ideas for future events. In order to start turning these ideas into upcoming projects we need to start building our club community. We would like to begin the process of setting up an initial club meeting in Sacramento that anyone is welcome to attend. At this initial meeting we will simply host as a meet n great. Maybe even organize a party load for the following morning. If this is something that you would be interested in simply like this post and we will soon organize this meeting.
