Districts Make the Difference

The Maybell Irrigation District recently completed a modernized $6.8 million headgate and diversion project, supported by a $750,000 grant from the Colorado Water Conservation Board funded through sports betting tax revenue. Since 2020, Colorado has directed $140 million in betting revenue to water conservation projects, improving irrigation efficiency, wildlife habitat and drought resilience statewide.

The Santa Fe Irrigation District and San Dieguito Water District celebrated the completion of the R.E. Badger Clearwell Solar Project in Rancho Santa Fe. The 574-kilowatt solar installation will supply about 80% of the treatment plant’s energy needs, delivering an estimated $4 million in savings while advancing sustainability and long-term rate stability.

The Indian Trail Improvement District and local officials recently marked the completion of the expanded J.W. Corbett Levee in western Palm Beach County. The Harris County Flood Control District completed a $3.2 million restoration project near Little Cypress Creek, improving stormwater flow and reducing flood risk for nearby neighborhoods. The six-month effort removed sediment and debris, stabilized eroded banks, and repaired damaged infrastructure to help protect homes, utilities, and public infrastructure during future storms.

The Decatur Park District plans to expand services for older adults with the construction of a new activity center near Scovill Park West Activity Center. The facility will offer recreation, fitness, and social spaces for adults age 55 and older. Construction is scheduled to begin in May and conclude in summer 2027.

The Lower Loup Natural Resources District - LLNRD marked Arbor Day by visiting 20 schools in 14 Nebraska communities and teaching students about the importance of trees and the holiday's Nebraska roots. The district, which has planted more than 101 million trees since 1972, distributed ponderosa pine seedlings to encourage future conservation efforts.

Through educational content, including videos and a parody music video, WVWD explained infrastructure and conservation topics in accessible and engaging ways. The campaign earned two 2025 industry awards for communications excellence.

The Regional Transportation District RTD is celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States and Colorado’s 150th anniversary by partnering with the History Colorado Center to promote transit access to commemorative exhibitions and debut a specially wrapped bus.
