The Williamson County ESD9 unveiled new wildland firefighting equipment for the Sam Bass Fire Department, including specialized vehicles and a custom trailer. Officials said the investment strengthens emergency response, coordination and firefighter safety as rapid growth and the expanding wildland-urban interface increase wildfire risks across Williamson County.

Thanks to a grant from the Wildhorse Foundation, Cove Rural Fire Protection District recently upgraded its handheld radios. Officials said the radios will improve communication, mutual-aid compatibility and firefighter safety during wildland and medical calls, especially as Oregon enters an unusually dry fire season.

The Solano Resource Conservation District is offering free volunteer and environmental education days at the Lake Solano Demonstration Garden for scout troops, 4-H clubs and other youth groups. Participants will help with habitat restoration efforts following the 2020 LNU Lightning Complex fires while learning about ecology and conservation through hands-on projects.

The Unified Fire Authority helped save about 25 million bees Tuesday after a semi-truck carrying 480 beehives broke down in Parleys Canyon. Unified Fire crews sprayed water on the trailer to keep the bees cool in unusually hot temperatures while mechanics repaired the truck.

The Security Water and Sanitation Districts has completed major facility upgrades to improve wastewater treatment and help protect groundwater and drinking water supplies. The project included a biosolids processing plant that recycles sludge into fertilizer for agricultural use and a pioneering PFAS filtration system designed to remove PFAS from groundwater.
The expansion helps the district prepare for future state regulations, improve efficiency and reduce long-term operating costs.
