The County Board of Ed voted to renew the Highlands Charter that Twin Rivers had revoked. They actually faulted Twin Rivers for a lack of oversight. That oversight costs a district money, and charters contribute only a small fraction of it. Meanwhile every charter school takes money away from district students.

The closure of under enrolled schools may be inevitable, but the process should always involve the community. There was a stark contrast between the round of closures in 2008 which had community input, and 2013 which did not.. The later resulted in a lawsuit claiming discrimination in the schools chosen for closure. The court found that low income communities were discriminated against, but because "intent" by the district could not be proven, the lawsuit failed.

Closing a school is a sad thing to do, but the small high schools are a drain on SCUSD. The grant money that supported them when they first opened 20 years ago is long gone. The programs could be moved to the comprehensive high schools, most of which are under enrolled.

Well this can't be good. But it might be a personal reason, rather than a rat deserting a sinking ship situation. I had heard that she was ill when she first took over the district a few years back. What a lousy picture to use Abridged.
