Ella K. McClatchy Friends

designed by Rudolph Adam Herold in the early 1900s for Charles and Ella McClatchy and their family. The house became a library in 1940, after Eleanor McClatchy and Charlotte Maloney presented it to the City of Sacramento as a memorial to their mother. The second floor is currently not accessible to the public, but will be in the near future. Along with a responsive collection, (including LINK) the library offers public internet stations and free WiFi access. You can now also check out DVDs, and even ereaders! Kati's Preschool storytimes will delight the little ones. Entertaining programs for school-age kids and teens take place all year round, and we will do our best to post them weekly! The Friends of Ella K. McClatchy Library is an exceptionally dedicated and active group which sponsors activities such as those listed above and more. Enjoy exploring a book shop in the library's bright and cozy sunroom that includes magazines, costume jewelry, games, toys, and other donated knick knacks, and books for sale. The Friends of McClatchy also host an annual Open House to celebrate the library's birthday in mid-November...stay tuned!!! You are always cordially invited to stop by for a pleasant visit! Browse through sale materials in the sun room, walk the up and down the creaky wood floors, gaze at the beautiful stained- glass window, get comfy on a window seat or in a beanbag chair, sit, read and soak up the sun on our brick steps leading up to the main entrance, have a picnic out back and check out our mural, chat with Sally, the branch supervisor and of course, check out lots of good books, magazines, CDs, or DVDs.
