🚨 MAGA extremists and corporate interests aren’t going to like this… our legislative package is advancing, and we’re keeping up the fight to ensure California works for everyone – not just the well-connected. On to the Senate! 👩🏽‍⚖️
As Trump and his court attempt to silence Black voters I refuse to let California be silent. Our voting rights were won in the blood and determination of our civil rights movement leaders and we owe it to them to respond in kind to this moment.

My district raised Justin Jones. Oakland’s spirit of resistance lives in him. Proud to stand with him in Sacramento and say that we will not go back to the Confederate era, where Black voters were erased and neglected. The Voting Rights Act was written in the blood of our civil rights movement leaders. Congress must restore it.
Wednesday, Assemblymember Mia Bonta, Tennessee State Representative Justin Jones, members of the California Legislative Black Caucus, and a coalition of California legislative leaders will unite in response to the Supreme Court's recent decision in Louisiana v. Callais, a ruling that has opened the floodgates for partisan gerrymandering targeting Black and brown voters across the country.

I want a budget that works for every Californian.
Why would we accept a budget that prioritizes short-term savings and ballooning long-term costs? Why would we accept an economy where the wealthiest corporations shift their obligations onto everyday taxpayers? Why would we allow the AI industry to boom off taxpayer-funded research while people go uninsured?
I was honored to join the California Budget & Policy Center to make the case for bold thinking. The answer to a tough budget year and Trump-induced chaos isn’t to gut the programs people depend on. It’s to invest smarter, protect what works, and build an economy where everyone can afford to thrive.
That’s the budget California deserves.

May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, a time to celebrate the AAPI communities that make our district so vibrant, and to recommit to keeping every neighbor safe. I was proud to recently meet with local advocates dedicated to ending AAPI hate. This work is personal to me, and I’ll keep fighting alongside our community.

The East Bay’s history is workers’ history. From the docks to the picket lines, our community has been built by people who organized, marched, and demanded better. This May Day, I’m proud to stand in solidarity with workers across California fighting for better wages, better benefits, and better workplaces.
