The Purple Silk Youth Orchestra returns by popular demand, and this year the Chinese Folk Dance Association joins for an unforgettable celebration of culture, heritage, and history.

๐Ÿฅณ Happy birthday Theodore Judah! ๐Ÿฅณ March 4 is the 200th anniversary of his birth and we are honored to celebrate someone so important to the history of railroading in California.

๐Ÿ”Ž If you want to learn more about him, celebrate at a special talk about his life and legacy on Saturday, March 7. The talk will be given twice: at 11am and again at 1pm.

๐Ÿš‚ This will be inside the California State Railroad Museum and is included with regular admission.

๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ“– Happy (belated) National Library Shelfie Day from the California State Railroad Museum Library & Archives!

Today, we're highlighting the top shelfies from our library and archives staff - let's show them some love!

1. Author and CSRM Library & Archives Volunteer, Jeff Asay points to his favorite shelf in the library showcasing the books he authored himself.

2. Assistant Archivist Gretchen Underwood features a beautifully-bound collection of issues from Trains magazine, dating as far back as the year 1940.

3. Assistant Archivist Claire Phillips takes her love of libraries outdoors while on San Francisco's Double Cross Trail.

๐Ÿš‚๐Ÿ“š Join us this holiday Monday, January 19, for a very special Story Time at the Museum. We will be reading two wonderful books, including a guest appearance by author Marie A. Young, who will read her book, The Porters.

After story time, families can enjoy a themed scavenger hunt and coloring pages inspired by the books.

All Aboard for Story Time takes place every Monday at 11:00 am inside the Museum. The program is free with museum admission and is designed for toddlers and preschoolers, but all are welcome. We look forward to seeing you there.

Calling all Homeschool Families! Homeschool Day is returning to the California State Railroad Museum on October 17, 2025, from 10AM to 12PM.

๐Ÿš‚ FREE Admission: Homeschool Families that register by OCTOBER 4th using the provided link will receive free admission to the California State Railroad Museum on October 17. Please note that you must enter between 10AM and 12PM for free admission.

๐Ÿ“šInteractive Activities: Weโ€™ll have a variety of educational activity stations located throughout the museum. Meet a museum curator, decode a telegraph, learn about primary sources, and much more! These activities are designed for K-6 students, but all are welcome.
