CHP - Air Operations

Sometimes the mission extends beyond the ground.

***TRAIL RESCUE - MARIN COUNTY***

CHP H-30 was requested by to a trail rescue on the Cataract Trail, near the High Marsh Trail. H-30 happened to be staffed along with a Marin County Fire Helicopter Rescue Technician (HRT) paramedic and was clearing a previous call. The crew responded to the area and were able to locate the patient. The HRT medic was hoisted down to the patient where he was treated and hoisted up off the trail. He was flown to an awaiting ground ambulance, then transported to a local hospital.

***TRAIL RESCUE - LAS TRAMPAS***

CHP H-30 was requested by to a mountain bike crash on a single track, inaccessible trail, near the Madrone Trail, in Las Trampas Regional Preserve. H-30 happened to have a San Ramon Valley Fire Helicopter Rescue Technician (HRT) member working shift today and responded to the area. The crew was able to locate the party through the thick canopy and insert the HRT member to contact the patient. The patient was prepared for hoist extraction and flown to an awaiting ground ambulance where he was then taken to a local hospital.

***TRAIL RESCUE - SAN PEDRO MOUNTAIN***

CHP H-30 was requested by calfire_czu Coastside Station to a trail rescue in the area of the North Peak Access Trail, near the town of Montara. It was reported the patient was suffering from a broken leg on a single track trail. The crew of H-30 picked up a sffdpio Helicopter Rescue Technician (HRT) member while responding. Once overhead, the HRT member was lowered down to the patient and assisted fire personnel with preparing her for hoist rescue. The patient was hoisted from the scene down to an awaiting ground ambulance for further treatment.

***CLIFF RESCUE - POINT REYES SEASHORE***

At approximately 1900 hours, CHP H-30 was requested by along with and to a cliff rescue just south of Pelican Lake, on the Point Reyes National Seashore coast. It was reported two females were stuck on an extremely steep cliff, above the beach. The crew of H-30 responded and were able to locate the parties along an extremely steep rock formation. H-30 deployed a paramedic using a one skid landing in order to contact the parties and have them move to a safer location for rescue. The crew of H-30 then performed another one skid landing along the cliff and loaded both onto the helicopter. They were then flown to an awaiting ground ambulance for treatment. When hiking, always prepare for changing weather conditions as well as give yourself plenty of time for safe return before darkness.
