Today, the Board of Directors gathered in beautiful Mariposa County to collaborate, share insights, and tackle the most pressing issues facing California’s 40 .

“To entertain the hypothetical reintroduction of a predator as formidable as the grizzly bear, while struggling to manage those already present, is irresponsible and a misuse of limited resources.”
In a Sacramento Bee Op-Ed, Sierra County Supervisor and RCRC Delegate Lee Adams and County of Santa Barbara Supervisor and RCRC Vice Chair Bob Nelson argue against Senate Bill 1305, asserting that the reintroduction of grizzly bears into California is unsafe for residents and communities. In the piece, they assert that California lacks the habitat and resources to manage another apex predator, especially as rural communities already face significant safety risks and conflicts with predators.

The final tour stops of the day brought our rural county leaders to the Mariposa Museum & History Center and the historic Mariposa County Courthouse.
Our group gained valuable insights into the county’s history and the legacy of California’s civic roots.

For the next stop on our County tour, our rural leaders were treated with a visit to Happy Goat farm.
Happy Goat is a nonprofit farm that feeds families in need, protects the local community with goat-powered fire prevention, and practices regenerative farming. Thank you to the team at Happy Goat for welcoming us and sharing your story!

Our rural county leaders kick off their tour of Mariposa County with an early morning stop at iconic Glacier Point in Yosemite National Park!
The visit provided supervisors and county officials with an opportunity to experience firsthand the unique landscape, natural resources, and community connections that make Mariposa County a vital gateway to one of the nation's most treasured public lands.

Rural leaders from across California are gathering in this evening for ’s 2026 County of the Chair event - a longstanding tradition that brings rural county supervisors to the RCRC Chair’s home county for a firsthand look at local priorities and innovation.
This year RCRC Chair and Mariposa County Supervisor Miles Menetrey will host a tour highlighting natural resource management, agriculture, and local historic preservation. The event concludes on Friday with the RCRC Board meeting.
